I searched for a relevant thread but didn’t see one, so I’m sorry if I’m re-asking something old.
I am coming into the Church from a Protesant/agnostic background. For almost the past year I have been trying to be as Catholic as I can before being Confirmed, including attending Mass on Sundays and days of obligation,an attempting (badly) to remember Friday penance. For the period of time in which I’ve known about Catholic requirements, am I bound by these practises right now and should I bring violations to First Confession? Or would I not do this until after Confirmation?

you are not bound by Catholic discipline and canon law until you are received into the Catholic Church, through profession of faith and Confirmation (preceded by sacramental confession) and reception of first communion. Of course all humanity is bound by the 10 commandments and natural law so those are the things to consider when you are ready for your first confession.

Welcome home.
Be sure to ask these questions of the people who are preparing you for sacraments, because when our participants don’t ask questions we worry we are not teaching them properly.

It sounds as if the Lord is working deeply in you and that is beautiful to hear.

From my view it would be best to confess everything during your first confession.

You can speak to your priest who could be mroe informative.

This question was for an unplanned confession…we will not be preparing for “first confession” until March, but today was a Penance Sunday and the class was encouraged to go and take advantage of that if they had anything “hanging over them”. I was especially encouraged to go, as I’ve been allowed to come into full communion with the Church in January. I asked a few questions in class, but of course I didn’t think of that one until it was too late.

Thank you! :o
