I had a friend today trying to say that everything is a could be, like God. He says, “for all we know the Allah could be true nobody knows what is right because we haven’t seen it. The Bible could be a big joke” Me and some other friends threw out some other arguments but he was pretty arrogant. Any advice on other proofs that God does exist and we are right? Please respond! Thanks and God Bless!

a big part of Faith is believing things that can’t be fully explained by our limited human reasoning. 🤷 May your friend’s eyes be opened to our Lord.

…for all we know…
Right, and this could all be an illusion, like The Matrix. But the fact we’re even aware of the possibility implies we do know, or have known, the real truth as it is in itself. People like your friend are the reason why someone invented the word sophomore. The “strength” of his position is that no matter what argument you come up with, he can always dismiss it with “but you may be wrong”. So maybe the best thing to do would be to take him seriously and actually live out the implications of his Philosophy-101 radical skepticism. Go out with him for a burger or something and deliberately leave him behind. If he has a problem with it say something like “you could be an illusion for all we know” - that sort of thing. Suddenly it won’t be so funny.

By the way, Hokie, can you prove that human reason is limited?

Umm… we’re only human? 😛

Perhaps since there are things that we do not know for sure at the given time, while we may be able to determine some things in the future perhaps there will also be something beyond our reach forever.

I feel that I am fusing reasoning and scientific achievement, related though they are.

On the flip side, which sounds ludicrous… Can you prove that human reasoning is unlimited?
