Though I’ve probably asked this before, I probably did not fully understand the answer. Hence, here I am asking again.

Suppose something (bar, website, movie, etc.) has caused someone to sin in the past. Later, that person goes back to that thing with the full intent to resist falling into sin and succeeds. Did that person fail to avoid an occasion of sin or not?

I’m no expert on Church semantics but-
I believe you meant “near” occasion of sin. This is any situation where you are at a heightened risk for sinning. The occasion of sin, to me, would be the same thing as sinning.

This person put himself at risk for sin by doing something that has caused him to sin in the past, when he could have avoided doing said thing. He failed to avoid the “near occasion of sin.” While this is not sinful in and of itself, it’s not a habit you want to get into.
In this particular scenario, no sin was had but bad judgement was shown.

I would say that is only temporary and not to be played with. The clearest example I can give is that I am a recovering alcoholic and in order for me to stay sober I have to know my limitations…I cannot go to a club just to dance…it’s just not a realm of possibilities for me, no matter what my resolve is. In the past when I chose to drink I would start off by drinking 2 beers and drinking slow that lasted only a couple of weeks…2 turns into 3 & so on & so forth. My disease is lot bigger, stronger, more cunning than I. I have to keep in mind that yes God will help me recover from my affliction…but no He surely will not cure me and make it so I can go out & drink as a social drinker. In other words its like playing russian roulette…sometimes you get lucky, just lucky enough you set yourself up for the big fall…depends on hell bent you are in believing you got it. That’s how it is for me anyway.

I whole heartily agree with what you have stated here…Sadly i know how true your words are from my own experiences.
Once i was free then came close to the fire,i passed through it…after passing through i said see yu didn’t even get singed, again i walked through the fire and got consumed by it.And have ever since been trying to put it out.
