Another picking a patron saint thread

I wasn’t expecting to post this but I had the fortune of getting switched to a personalized RCIA class such that I’ll not only get baptized but also confirmed as well! I was asked if I wanted to pick a patron saint.

Unlike what my dad says, I don’t want to choose a saint whom I happen to share the same name as. Based on the little information available, I don’t feel anything that draws me to them. I found out that I didn’t have to choose a female saint which amused me since my name is actually a unisex name.

I need some help with narrowing down some saints.

I know regardless of whom I choose, she/he will be keeping an eye or me but I would to be able to read what my saint has written (theology interests me) and it’d be neat if she/he lived closer to my time. I admire people along the likes of our Holy Father, Albino Luciani/Pope John Paul I 🙂 <3, Reverend Fulton J. Sheen and Padre Pio. But 2 of them are in the beatification process and Padre Pio is the only one I’ve listed who is a declared saint (although if I chose him, I think I would be more inclined to be discipline which I sorely need).
 
Choose Padre Pio!! you will always have him for a dear friend in this life & the next! 🙂

When I became a Catholic in 2002, I was a baptized non-Catholic and was never even suggested a saint. I have no idea where to even begin to select a patron saint. As such I feel as though I have no one I can emulate
 
Picking a patron saint is totally personal. There are no rules.

It’s perfectly acceptable to pick your sponsor’s name saint, or that of one of your relatives or special mentors. It’s also fine to pick your parish’s patron saint, or any saint you happen to admire. You can pick a patron saint name you already bear (like your middle name, if that’s suitable).

If you don’t know any saints, there are a lot of saint books free on the Internet.

His hands, feet & side bled continously because he had the wounds (& pain) of Christ upon them…I’m sure he didnt find it much fun either. Someone once asked him if they were painful, he answered 'Do you think that the Lord gave them to me for a decoration?"

A question are you also “grossed out” by Jesus? He appeared after the resurrection & invited Thomas to put his fingers in the wounds? Something to think about!

Padre Pio’s life was an imitation of Jesus, if we could only follow his example just little tiny bit what good christians we would be!
 
So what are your interests? Here’s a list of Patron Saints listed by topic. saints.sqpn.com/patronage-topics/

Or you can go by which Pope canonized them; obviously the more recent the Pope, the more likely they will be near-contemporary, which will make it more likely they were literate and their writings survive. saints.sqpn.com/canonized-by/

Blessed John Henry Newman wrote a lot. AND he was a convert to Catholicism!

I am interested in becoming a vet but doing well in school is an upward climb and I’m not so confident as to whether I have the talent…Right now, I’m looking for a saint with the kind of personality such that… if I was demotivated, lazy or impatient, I could imagine not only Jesus being disappointed but also my saint scolding me such that I would get up and try harder.

For that reason, I’m leaning towards Padre Pio.

I am leaning toward Gabriel the Archangel and John Henry Newman. Gabriel is the patron of radio. I’m interested in radio. I live in the diocese of Rockford, Illinois the patron of which is the Immaculate Conception. Decisions, decisions:hmmm:

'actually yes I am grossed out by Jesus, especially the “Immaculate Heart” where he holds this heart in his hand. with fire coming out of it!

Sorry, no disrespect intended, but I don’t want a stigmatic for a Patron Saint. They gross me out! I am 65 years of age, have never had a patron saint, I was protestant until I was 55 and I suppose I could do without a patron saint for another 65 years and counting!:nope:

well if you are grossed out by Jesus then perhaps St Jude would suit you, the patron saint of hopeless cases…
