We all know we should all play ping pong following the normal rules, and ending the game where it is supposed to end.

Say your wife doesn’t like to play ping pong for whatever reason…no changing this point. Is it okay to do other things besides play ping pong, until right at the last minute or two, then play ping pong until game over? When playing ping pong, does the game have to go on for the majority of the time, or can you prepare, and just have a couple of volleys until the games up?

if this is about ping pong, try computer games instead.

if this is not about ping pong, what :tsktsk: is it about? (if it is about marital relations, why do you ask about ping pong??? )

If you’re unsure about the rules, join a league and get help from other people? Maybe some day you can turn pro…

If this is a metaphor for some other issue with moral theology you might want to come out and just say it that way so many people won’t be so confused.

If I’m understanding your metaphor correctly:

Assuming you don’t do anything violating the moral rules of ping pong, and your game finishes properly, you haven’t done anything sinful. There’s no rule stating how long your endgame must be.

However, if your wife isn’t interested in that, all moral issues aside, it seems you have something deeper you need to work out together. I don’t think that’s something that can just be worked around for very long.

Also, a pool table will usually fit in the same space that a ping pong table takes up.

You can play ping pong as long as you like and take as many intermissions as you like even taking longer intermissions than the actual ping pong game. As long as you end the game as ping pong ends with a victory and everyone shakes hands afterward then it is an ok game.

Never mind the people with poor imagination or little sense of humor. I don’t mind discussing ping-pong. I doubt the Church has a problem with it either.

Are you saying that a wife might enjoy the warm-up excersizes more than the actual game itself? You can spend as much time doing jumping-jacks, toe-touches, sit-ups, and you-name-it as you like. You just can’t be too spent to play. It’s a major foul to spend all your energy before play.

The only moral obligation to Catholic ping-pong is that the ball must stop play in the wife’s court. Sorry ladies. But that doesn’t affect the score - I think the scoring is more based on who served.

That said, playing the game itself can be immensely fun and enjoyable. Generally speaking the ladies are better than men, as a result the warm up regimine is most commonly done in order to tire out the woman a tad so as to handicap them. Otherwise, the husbands are all burnt out before the wives even had much fun.

But the situation you suggest is peculiar. The wife doesn’t enjoy the game and wishes to minimize the duration of play. I suggest a good sports therapist. The wife may be suffering from tennis elbow or something that causes pain - and there may be things that can be done to help. Interestingly one remedy to tennis elbow is to do warm up excersizes. You might try one of the various ointments that are available. (A word of caution to those who might get confused with the euphamisms - do not try Ben Gay):bigyikes:

😃 That was an excellently written response! You have talent!

LOL! I was amazed that so many people didn’t understand…I ‘coded’ it due to the objections of many about the topics posted here. You all seemed to answer my question, but at a second thought, it does seem kind of selfish to play the game as I described. My wife just doesn’t like ping pong very much anymore.

I understood right away but gave silly responses because I believe the coding is silly and that the vast majority of the objections are silly as well.

Also, is it even possible to get tennis elbow from ping pong?

I believe repetitive motion disorders emanate from another type of activity that is objectively considered to be a grave sin.

Me, I’m just happy to find out that using a paddle is not merely permissible, but fundamental.

I certainly hope I’m interpreting all this correctly…

I believe that ‘Ping Pong aids’ are permitted under the rules, as long as the game concludes properly.😃

This euphemism is getting more than a little ridiculous (=.

Generally, it is indeed fine under International Standard Rules to begin not playing ping-pong and simply end the gaming session that way. Know, however, that if your wife truly is not enjoying ping-pong, substitution a number of odd game variations is probably not the answer. Usually a dislike of ping-pong is a problem that cannot be solved on the surface, but that runs deeper than that. Make sure that no game variations used in any way degrade or harm either player!

God bless.
