I am having a hard time distinguishing the line between temptation and actual sins, and I have a question reguarding impurity. I was tempted to look at an inappropriate picture on social media. I scrolled down to look at it, but as soon as I saw it, I realized I did not want to objectify the person, and offend God by lusting after them, so I closed it immediately. I am worried I committed a mortal sin, and I want to understand if I crossed the line from temptation to sin.

Think of it like this:

Do you know the difference between being tempted to punch someone in the face and punching them in the face?

Temptation: tempted to punch someone .
Sin: punching them

That makes sense, but would that constitute mortal sin in this situation?

I know it is grave matter, so I have full knowledge, but I don’t know if I really gave full consent, if that makes any sense.

You knew that the picture was immodest.

Unless someone grabbed your computer and scrolled down for you, you did consent.

Take this to your confessor.

There is no need for all this angst.
Simply take it to confession regardless and let God discern ths borderline. It isnt an impersonal exam but a relationship.
