What is the liturgy of the hours supplement and what is it supposed to be used for also where can I get a Bravery? I have the app but like the feel of books in my hand …ok ok I’m oldfashed lol 😁😃
 
The supplement is for saints added to the calendar since the books were published.

You can find the breviary on Amazon, or any good Catholic bookstore. Search for Liturgy of the Hours in in the US or Canada, or Divine Office if in other parts of the English speaking world UK, Ireland, NZ, Australia).

On the other hand you can find bravery most easily in the armed forces, police and fire departments 😉

Ibreviary is a great app. The books are very expensive. You can pick up single volumes on ebay sometimes for a reasonable price.
 
If you’re interested in the multi-volume (full) breviary, you could spread the expense out over the course of a year by purchasing each volume as you need it.

I agree that iBreviary is wonderful and use it myself when I don’t have my breviary with me. But for those who prefer a physical book, there is no substitute that completely satisfies.

Beware I have found errors on iBreviary, at least in French, such as June 24th (St John the Baptist) being a feast instead of a solemnity, and a few other minor glitches. I haven’t used it in over a year though, so some of the errors may have since been corrected.
 
Laudate doesn’t use the approved US translation; iBreviary does. I haven’t noticed any errors in the (American) English, but that doesn’t mean it’s flawless, either. Just good enough for my uses.

Ohh ok… it’s still an approved translation, though, which is nice.
 
I second the recommendations to check on eBay. I was able to get a 4 volume set for less than $100. It didn’t have the supplement and I had to redo the ribbons, but it was cheaper than a new set. Unless you absolutely cannot afford to, I would buy the complete set from the same person - the books should all be in the same condition that way.

And, I have a full shelf with all of the different versions of LoTH - Shorter Christian Prayer, Christian Prayer, Liturgy of the Hours (Pauline edition), and the 4 volume LoTH. I like having the SCP for Morning Prayer at Church (that’s the volume they use) but I wish I had saved my money and skipped right over the 1 volume CP to the full set.
 
I have the full French LOTH, the 1-volume “Prière du temps présent”, Christian Prayer, the Mundelein Psalter, monastic Schema A (psalter and antiphonary), Monastic Schema B (breviary and chant books for Lauds and Vespers), and pre-Conciliar Monastic Breviary and two pre-Conciliar monastic antiphonaries (one specific to the Solesmes Congregation). Also Les Heures Grégoriennes, diurnal hours in Gregorian chant, and the new Antiphonale Romanum (Vespers of Feasts, Solemnities and Sundays in Gregorian chant).

Some of these books I have in more than one copy (no, they are not for sale…)

Can you tell I’m a liturgy geek? 😛
 
I have the 4 volume set of LOTH and just wanted to know about where can I find one of the brevity

The breviary is the 4-volume set. Are you asking where you might find a shortened version of the LOTH? There are a few options: Christian Prayer, Shorter Christian Prayer, etc.
 
To someone new, I would never ever recommend the 4 volume set. For that matter, not even the one volume set. Cost wise and experience wise, I would recommend the thin, single volume Shorter Christian Prayer, which contains Lauds, Vespers and Compline. Unless people have a strong familiarity with the LOTH, it is easy to get buried and lost in it (including the large one volume Christian Prayer).

Saying the Office can be daunting to neophytes; and even with only three of the hours, it can seem complex and confusing. Adding in even more material isn’t much help.

And as an aside; I have the 4 volume set; but when I entered minor seminary in my first year of college, we all used the Shorter Christian Prayer. No one that I recall had any more.
 
Not sure why you’re singling me out for this, as I didn’t “recommend” anything. Saying “if you’re interested in” isn’t the same as “you should get this.”
 
I’d also recommend starting with Shorter Christian Prayer, but I would skip Christian Prayer and go straight to the 4-volume set from there (unless you are part of a religious order that uses it).
 
Not sure that I intentionally singled you out. "tis late, so I will not investigate; but the OP appeared to be new to the LOTH, and someone spoke about the 4 volume set. If not you, then sorry.

I am a believer in everyone who is new to LOTH starting out in easy steps.
 
No harm, no foul. You’d quoted my post, so I thought your response was directed at me.

Agreed on starting out gently, however. Many a well-intentioned soul has been rapidly discouraged by trying to tackle the entire LOTH from Day One.
