For some reason, it seems within the last several years that homosexuality is really on the rise. Now, maybe this is because it is so talked about that I am noticing so many more people that are gay. Or maybe that so many more are “coming out”. It seems, however, that with our young people, this is the thing to do. Almost like an “in” thing. My d is a teacher in a local high school, and she has noticed the same thing. Almost like it’s the thing to do. They have “gay clubs” etc. where she said probably about 1/4 of her entire high school attends. Seems like a high number, no?
I keep waiting to read something we are doing or eating that is spurring all this on.😃
Seriously, has the number of gay people grown, or were they always there that are now not in the shadows about it?

That club is probably the “Gay-Straight Alliance Club”. Its supposed to be a club that brings gay and straight people together under the banner of protecting gay rights so no, 1/4th the school is not gay. These kind of things are becoming more popular and polarizing though because it has been such an issue on the political stage in recent years. Gay marriage advocates are working to “inform” the young generation so that they will eventually change public opinion.

Well two potential reasons it could be on the rise is that:
  1. It has become more ‘socially acceptable’ so yes I do imagine more people feel they are able to express such urges more than before
2.And I also imagine that it has almost a cross effect on young people. As young people going through puberty experiencing feelings that they have not had before, I think that potentially the social acceptance of homosexual feelings is causing young people to believe they are gay due to sexual feelings that may or may not occur when they happen to be around other members of the same sex. Potentially misattributing the urges to mean that they are ‘homosexual’, when this may not necessarily be the case.

Exactly.

And when kids in schools are told that homosexuality is “normal”, they are not going to think twice about where they direct those new found sexual urges.

My grandchildren now go to a private school, but because of resources that the public schools can offer that the private school cannot, their parents are toying with the idea of the public school. I am really worried about this as I have read in many places where they are almost pushing the idea of homosexuality as being the preferred option. The public schools in this country in general seem to be in chaos on so many levels. I wish we could homeschool them.😦

Thanks all for the feedback.

From what I’ve read, No…“becoming gay” is not on the rise…BUT with it’s acceptance those who find themselves gay or lesbian NOW have access to counselors and organizations which will assit them in understanding their sexuality…the “closet” is becoming more empty…

Exactly.

This sort of opinion, like the one about sexual orientation being a ‘choice’, always perplexes me.

Ask yourself this question: as a heterosexual person, would you be able to feel homosexual desires? At what point did you ‘decide’ to be heterosexual? Could you have then, or now, changed your orientation at will? I know I couldn’t.

Perhaps you should go and read this thread, taking special note of the OP’s own story.

Many of the world’s wisdom traditions hold that there are, in the end, only two paths we can follow in this world…the path of wisdom or the path of pleasure. Within the Catholic wisdom tradition a consistent ethic of and for life along with a collective accountability to sustain, replenish and have dominion over the earth, as directed by the first words of God in Genesis, are primary moral obligations. Within this context contraception is seen as a pre-abortive action - preventing the Spirit from entering the physical world in the form of a new creation, a new child. Once widely accepted, contraception leads to abortion as a backup plan. Since it is ok to “play God” and stifle creation, pre-conception, it becomes acceptable post-conception as well.

Once society crosses those two moral boundaries, sex for pleasure alone is a natural result along with pornography, adultery, spousal abuse, addictions, sensuality, and other societal maladies resulting from an ill-formed conscience. The wisdom to be gained in traditional families, in the natural order of creation, becomes seen as only one “alternative” to a variety of family structures that do not include 2 biological parents and children. From this “anything-goes” mentality abuses of mother earth in the form of a disposable (instant gratification) economy are at least one predictable outcome. Sadly even some of the shepherds of the Church have faltered in holding strong to these ancient principles and the magesterim/teaching of the faith - the result is now a mandate to include contraception in all national health plans squarely against the moral obligation. When we forgo wisdom for pleasure, we forgo our responsibility to God, to each other and to the planet.
