Hi everyone!
I know this has been asked a few times before, but I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for in past threads. My fiance and I are trying to work out proper wording that will include both of our sets of parents, the sacrament of matrimony and Nuptial Mass… but need to figure out a way to define the sacrament of Holy matrimony as separate from the Nuptial Mass since the Mass itself is not what unites us. It seems that the sacrament is somewhat integrated into the liturgy when looking through the order of a Catholic wedding Mass, so we don’t really know how to define them properly.

Is the below wording ok or a bit awkward? Does it define the Mass and sacrament enough? Is it relatively accurate liturgically? Any recommended changes? Thanks so much!!

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith
request the honour of your presence
at the Nuptial Mass as their children

Jane Elizabeth
and
Joseph Francis Smith

are united in the
Sacrament of Holy Matrimony at

[DATE]
[YEAR]
at [TIME]
[CHURCH]
[CITY,STATE]

When including both sets of parents, they are put one underneath the other and there isn’t an “and” between, but most people probably don’t know that so you can put “and” if you want:

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith
request the honour of your presence
at the Nuptial Mass uniting their children

Jane Elizabeth
and
Joseph Francis

in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

[DATE]
[YEAR]
at [TIME]
[CHURCH]
[CITY,STATE]

I have seen:

Mr & Mrs. John Doe
request the honor of your presence
to the wedding uniting their daughter,

Jane Mary

to

Tom John Man,
son of
Mr & Mrs Tim Man

in the Sacrament of Marriage and
celebration of the Nuptial Mass

I don’t really like this wording.

This is the wording I used for my recent wedding:

Together with their families (we hosted and didn’t include parents names)

Jane Marie Doe

and

John Tyler Smith

request the honor of your presenence
at the nuptial mass
at which they will be
united in the
Sacrament of Marriage.

If you wanted to include Parents names you could use:
Mr and Mrs. John Doe
Mr and Mrs Tim Man

request the honor of your presenence
at the nuptial mass
at which their children

Jane Marie Doe

and

John Tyler Smith

will be united in the
Sacrament of Marriage.
