…And why the ten plagues being dropped on it would do a lot of good. 😛

breitbart.com/Big-Hollywood/2012/07/10/robocop-remake-corporate-greed

It’s not the whole Left-wing “oooh corporate greed…evil” that bothers me…what bothers me is,

They are remaking RoboCop :mad::mad::mad:

Hollywood seriously needs to board up their doors and windows with this and the Red Dawn remake they have completely lost any originality they have had. All I see in Hollyweird are a bunch of childish X/Y-generation types trying to relive their childhood by poorly remaking films from their childhoods.

All I can say is what’s next…what’s next from Hollywood huh?
  • Evil Dead starring anyone but Bruce Campbell?
  • Back To the Future starring Miley Cirus?
  • Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark starring Channing Tatum?
  • Wall Street starring Shia LaBeuouf (oooooh wait…)
  • Beverly Hills Cop starring Jay Pharaoh (wait…that actually might be good :hmmm:)
  • Roxanne starring Jonah Hill?
Seriously I don’t know why anyone watches a movie coming out of Hollywood anymore…nothing is original.
I thought Shia Laboeouf would take on the Indiana Jones character.

Roxanne is part of Hollywood’s absence of originality – it is a modern rip-off of Cyrano DeBergerac.

I enjoy movies made on classical novels and stories, they don’t irk me as much as very successful movies being done with the only change being a newer, hipper cast. I thought Steve Martin did an excellent job with Roxanne.

Me too. It actually stuck a lot closer to the book in many ways, which I appreciated.

I guess remakes don’t bother me so much because the originals are still always there. If the remake stinks, it will quickly fade into obscurity.

are you kidding?

Only one of the films contains the proper ending to the novel… The other one doesn’t. Guess which one has the ending of the book?

So much for “sticking closer to the book”… when it really counted the Gene Wilder version got to the soul of the story(and the character of Charlie too)… the Depp one dropped the ball and turned the Glass Elevator scene into “just another SFX-laden scene”.

Everytime I see that scene in the original film, I end up in tears crying… same as when I read it in the book. In the Tim Burton version, it’s just “Hang on, why is the movie continuing? and why are they treating this scene as just another SFX-wow moment, this is the climax of the novel!”

As weird as Wonka is the book, the final scene is supposed to reveal it was all just a show, and at heart he really loves good kids and dislikes the selfish ones. He’s just a normal man with a good wise heart, and he sees the same in Charlie. But apparently Tim Burton didn’t like how the book switches things around with the final few pages.

And in response to the first post of this thread…

Frankly I reacted more when they announced Colin Farrell was going to play Douglas Quaid… Yeah that’s right Colin Farrell of all people playing Douglas Quaid…

If they were going to remake Total Recall(Verhoven’s other action classic), why the heck didn’t they at least cast someone buff like The Rock or Vin Diesel in the lead role?

They better not stuff up the ending…

Concerning Robocop I would have liked to see proper a sequel(ignoring number 3).

P.S.
See you at the party Richter!

As much as I liked the original movie, its always spoke volumes to me that Dahl absolutely HATED it and refused to allow them to make the second book into a sequal.

This might be a little out there, but why not try to get your scripts produced into movies yourself? Now with crowd funding, you could collect funds on sites like Kickstarter or Indie Go Go. Get some friends and and family involved, use the funds to hire experienced crew members and rent/buy gear. Actually, it would help to get one of those books like Movie Making Course, get a small crew and cheap equipment and practice making 1-3 minute short films (maybe just certain scenes from your script), as practice for film making, as a screenwriting exercise, and to fill your resume with, or possibly even something to help get your scripts sold. Just food for thought. 🙂
Oh, I don’t know if that is possible. the script I am trying to sell now is called Lucifer’s Fall…about the actual war in heaven between Michael and Lucifer…huge budget… I don’t know if i could get that kind of backing…its a cool idea though. Perhaps with one of my lesser scripts i could. Will have to check into it. Thanks for the idea!

God has a plan for you and your talents. It sounds though that you do no want to compromise your values to sell a script and that is admirable.
Gosh, I hope he does have a plan for me and reveals it soon. I feel like i am getting old fast with no plan at all.

I once prayed to God about the script that i wrote, called “Lucifer’s Fall”. I said to him that if he was displeased with it in any way, to not let it sell…

It hasn’t. lol.

Back to the drawing board…

Oh I’d be careful saying “never”, Hollywood is very capable of producing something more hilarious and garbage worthy.

  1. The sequel to Red Dawn has already been made but apparently shelved. To update the movie, the filmmakers made the bad guys the Red Chinese. Apparently, they didn’t realize that the Red Chinese are 1) Among the biggest overseas markets for American films and 2) Rather touchy. Once the distribution company was told that if the film was released, none of its other products would ever be distributed in the PRC, they first tried to CGI in North Korean patches over the ChiCom patches (which didn’t work too well), on the business theory that a) North Korea isn’t much of a market for American films, and b) They couldn’t possibly hate us any more than they already do. I think it is currently slated for direct to DVD sales.
  2. The original RED DAWN: Cinematic Masterpiece. I mean, c’mon: Bill Smith as a Spetsnaz Commander? Powers Boothe as a USAF Colonel? And an amazing super-cast of 1980s young film talent (Patrick Swayze! Jennifer Grey! C. Thomas Howell! Lea Thompson! Charlie Sheen before he went crazy! Plus, Ron O’Neal as a Cuban paratroop commander and HARRY DEAN STANTON!) How could you beat that? Plus, the opening scene harks back to my Cold war-era daydream fantasies at St. Mark’s Elementary when I would look out the window and fantasize about Soviet paratroopers landing in the schoolyard and having to flee and start a guerilla band with my fellow Boy Scouts and the cute girl sitting three desks in front of me - anything to get out of an hour of Sister Ermina (bless her soul) trying to teach us Math.
  3. While many enjoy the cinematic oeuvre of Paul Verhoeven, the director of the original ROBOCOP, it should be remembered that he is probably (and I say this with the deepest feeling of charity), Satan’s Own Vicar on Earth. As evidence, I point to the steaming pile of guano he made out of Robert Heinlein’s wonderful novel, “Starship Troopers.”
I’m actually rather looking forward to the remake of ROBOCOP, as the Brazilian director, José Padilha, is amazingly talented. I’ve seen two of his films (they are available on Streaming Netflix), ELITE SQUAD and ELITE SQUAD 2: THE ENEMY WITHIN. Despite the cheesy American release titles which sound like a 1980s Golan-Globus film series with Dolph Lundgren, (original titles were “Tropa de Elite” and “Tropa de Elite 2 - O Inimigo Agora É Outro”) these are both sophisticated, amazingly layered and visually stunning films set in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, and track the career of an officer in BOPA (the Brazilian military police SWAT team) and the collapse of his family against the backdrop of the rise of a new corrupt cartel of militia officers. It’s like the best of THE WIRE and THE SHIELD in Brazil. Amazing cast (especially the lead, Wagner Moura), and is one of the best films on Brazilian politics and the law of unintended consequences.

The remake of Red Dawn has not been shelved nor has it been re-elegated to direct to DVD status. The film will be released to theatres on 11/21/2012 – appropriate as 11/22/2012 is Thanksgiving and this will more than lilkely be a turkey.

Though Dahl hated it, you’d have to wonder what he would think of an adaptation that totally disposed of his fantastic cathardic ending and proceeded to make Willy Wonka the main character.

So it goes both ways.

Never having read the book, I actually liked Starship Troopers, it was good sci-fi cheese.

I thought you’d mention “Showgirls” instead when I started reading that post.

But the point is here, just looking at the trailer for Colin Farrell, Kate Beckensale and Jessica Biel in “Total Recall: The Matrix Edition” doesn’t give me much hope for the Robocop remake either. And a good Director, Len Wiseman(who directed the fantastic action film Die Hard 4) made that.

Well Ladies 'n Gentlemen I have become the Neitzche of film.

I don’t agree with your conclusion that Burton’s movie adaption made Willa Wonka the main character. I thought the newer version of the movie actually put MORE emphasis on Charlie.

Just to make things clear, I like BOTH movie versions for their own different qualities. I didn’t think I’d like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because I loved Willa Wonka and Gene Wilder. But after giving the Burton’s movie a chance, I found there is enough room in my movie snobbishness to like both versions and both actors as Willa Wonka. I like the newer Charlie and his family much more than in the original.

Okay, well maybe not the ending. 😛 But a lot of the stuff in the factory (Verucal Salt and the squirrels, the Oompa Loompa songs, etc.) are closer to the book in Burton’s film.

As a screenwriter…I am always curious to know what kind of movies people do like…

So tell me…what would you like to see in film that has not been done yet?
