I’m just trying to learn now… I’m wondering do people need permission to keep first or second class relics? Like do they need to ask the Bishop? Thank you
A certificate is not needed for the relic to be kept by the laity. It would be needed, normally, to allow the relic to be made available for public veneration. Private veneration is different and requires no certification. However, the certification coupled with a matching seal and threads in place are the only assurance of the authenticity of the relic. I hope this helps.Thank you! Sorry I had another question, do such relics need a certificate of some kind in order to be kept licitly?
No, but you need that “certificate” to know if the relic is authentic. And no photocopy either. I had one person try to tell me that’s the “new way” of doing it - a photocopy of an original with no signature or raised seal on it - because the person had gotten their relics from some Catholic woman who was making a business out of selling them to other Catholics who didn’t know any better.Thank you! Sorry I had another question, do such relics need a certificate of some kind in order to be kept licitly?
NO, but they must be protected and treated with the utmost respect.I’m just trying to learn now… I’m wondering do people need permission to keep first or second class relics? Like do they need to ask the Bishop? Thank you
