I know that Our Blessed Mother wants us to say the Rosary daily. I have been saying it pretty much daily for about 4 to 5 months now. I have been saying just 5 decades at a time, however. I read somewhere in regards to Fatima that by a Rosary, she meant the COMPLETE Rosary which is 15 decades. (but if you want to count the new Luminous Mysteries it probably would be 20!)

OK, so should we be saying the complete Rosary daily (15 to 20 decades) in order to fulfill her request?🤷 (the longer I say it daily the more questions I have and the more I am seeing) I would have to rearrange my schedule in order to say the “complete” Rosary but I think we should be doing as she requests even if it is “inconvenient.” Anyone know?

Thanks, Tee

We do what we are able to do. Our Lady would not want us to neglect our duties to family, work, etc. in order to fit in all 15 or 20 decades.

If you want to make the Rosary more ever-present in your day, you can keep a Rosary in your pocket and say a decade or so in spare moments of down time. I have done this when taking a walk, watering the garden (a couple of Hail Marys for each plant or bush, the word Rosary even means a bouquet of roses for Our Lady!), when driving in the car (use your fingers or a tape or CD, it might not be safe to drive with a Rosary in your hand), when waiting in a doctor’s office, etc.

Some people have a little marker they hook to their rosary to help them remember where they left off if they recite it in piecemeal fashion throughout the day.

Our Lord will bless your efforts, but don’t get scrupulous about having to fit in 15 or 20 decades every day.

I would suggest do what you can with your schedule as it is now. If you are scrupolous and you overhaul your everyday schedule to fit in 15 or 20 decades, chances are, it will become a burden to you sooner or later. And it is precisely what the Enemy wants: to make the request of Our Lady appear an impossible burden! You don’t want that to happen to you. And Our Lady does not want you to be tempted this way.
A joyful readiness and good disposition is ever so more important than saying x Hail Marys or decades a day.

Teelynn, you are doing better than most. I get in about 5 decades a week.

Thank you all for shedding some light on this for me. Dirk: I just happen to have a schedule (Blessed Big Time!) that I can say one daily or ALMOST daily. The Blessed Mother KNOWS the responsibilites you have and what you can do and can’t do. I guess if I have the time, I just do what I can. Maybe I am being a little scrupulous, thanks for all the (name removed by moderator)ut people!🙂 I guess at times, we all just would like to do exactly as she wants.

Blessings,
Tee

I would view praying the Rosary as completing one set of Mysteries (i.e. 5 decades). If you pray in a group at Church or along with Mother Angelica on EWTN its always only one set of Mysteries. If you have time to do more that’s great but I think that praying the Rosary does not mean you have to do all 20 decades in one sitting or day.

Hello Tee, I think if you’re managing 5 decades a day, you’re doing well. It’s quality, not quantity that matters.

God bless,
Noel.

I have recently gone from about 3 decades a day to a complete 5. It takes me 20 to 30 minutes. To say all 20 would be 2 hours a day. For me that would be too much.

I do like the idea of carrying your rosary with you all day and saying an extra decade as you get the time. That’s how I got up to 3 a day to begin with. But I have recently been able to adjust my schedule to say 5 decades all at once which I really like.

I say concentrate on what you CAN do and do it with a joyful spirit. Do not let the devil have the upper hand here!

Praying the Holy Rosary is praying to God in three divine person as worship and praying to the Blessed Mother as veneration. it is the most powerful prayer second to the Holy Mass,we should say the rosary from our heart not just a lip of service, we should develop in our character to say the daily rosary. Our character will lead as to our destiny which is Heaven. Amen Lets as start praying the rosary God Bless As All:

This quote put my mind at ease from St. Louis de Montfort:

“Whenever possible, the Rosary should be said kneeling, with hands joined, clasping the Rosary… But it can be said while walking or even working… If you cannot find the time to say five
decades continuously, say a decade here and a decade there; you will in this way be able, in spite of your work and other demands on your time, to complete the whole Rosary before going to bed.”

As for myself, this is how I say the Rosary (in spurts) and I manage 3-5 decades most days.

Now this quote really clears it up for me. Yes, to say 15 to 20 decades would take awhile which I only occassionally have time for, and besides that I am sure (for me anyway) that I would have problems with concentration after a while. (guess I’m kind of like a hyper active kid at times:) ) I am sure She is satisfied with as much time as we can give…but I do feel strongly that Our Blessed Mother wants us to try hard to say it daily! (makes perfect sense as to the times we are living in)

Thanks LikeDismas, I have never seen that quote before! Makes things crystal clear to me.😃

Thanks to you all again,
Tee

I specifically asked this question about 18 months ago of a visiting speaker from Portugal (a fairly young mother-superior who also has a medical doctor degree and had talked with Sr. Lucie several times). Our Lady of Fatima used a specific portuguese word that implied the five decades. Sorry I forgot the Sister’s name. I’m currently reading “Calls” by Sr. Lucia and if I come across the answer in print I’ll come back and post again with the page number.

And I agree with you that this is important, to do the things that Our Lady asks. To me, it seems that the message of Fatima consists of good Catholic teaching along with requests to do some things.

I had been saying my Rosary at night before I went to sleep. Strangely enough, though I’ve suffered severe insomnia (both falling asleep and staying asleep) my entire adult life, I never had a problem falling asleep while saying the Rosary. 😛 Whether this was a gift from our Lady, or a trap from the enemy, I still don’t know.

However, my husband has switched from afternoon shift to day shift, which means I no longer go to sleep alone, and consequently have changed my Rosary habits. I now say one to two decades when he wakes up to go to work (v.v. early in the a.m.), fall back asleep, say another decade before I get up for the day, another decade while during the day while doing housework or with my 4 year old at her bedtime, and the last ones when I’m falling asleep for the night. I’ve found that breaking it up into chunks like this is really encouraging me to weave prayer into all aspects of my day. While folding laundry, I might remember to say one of the decades. While in the car, I might complete another one. It’s really been useful to me, to realize how much time I can dedicate to contemplating our Lord’s life. And since I’ve been trying to “tithe” each day to God in prayer, this gets me closer to that 2.5 hour mark.

I still get to Wednesday group Rosary when I can, and do enjoy a “straight through” recitation, but for the time being, I’m really reaping some good spiritual fruit from engaging in the devotion this way.
