Flawed assumption. There are some Protestant ministers, especially the televangelist/megachurch variety, who live in million-dollar mansions. But the fact is that many more do not, and only make enough to support their families. Priests are supposed to live very simply and humbly, and most of them do.

If God has this infinite resources at his disposal, why cant he pay the bills himself?

Because He is a good parent who understands that it is important for His children to make our own way instead of doing everything for us. In other words, God is not a helicopter parent.

LOL good comeback! God works through men and the created world to achieve His purposes. He has given man free will, the ability to chose for himself, what he believes in, and what is paramount in his life. If God stepped in and payed the bills, in a way that would undermine man’s free will. It would be an obstacle to all men choosing for themselves to believe or not to believe. For they would be forced to acknowledge His being. It’s not about paying the bills it’s about each man choosing to find out who God is.

I think it shows how mad he was at the Isrealites. You know that over 40 years, they had to have trampled over every oil field out there. He could have parked them over it and said, just wait and see the goodness of the Lord.

How many rich priests have you met? I know I haven’t met one yet, and aside from very few (some televangelists are the most glaring examples) ministers of any/all faiths- the majority of religious vocations do not produce materially wealthy positions.

I thought conflict was at the “root of war and evil.” People have this nagging tendency to fight about any and everything regardless. I can think of the Opium Wars, the Boer Wars, the American Revolution, the American Civil War, World War I, The Sino-Japanese Wars, The Falkland Island War, The Mexican-American War, The Spanish-American War, the War of 1812, the Napoleonic Wars, The Russian Civil War, the One Hundred Years Wars, the conquest of Alexander the Great, the Punic Wars, Caesar’s campaign into Gaul…just to name a few that had very little/ or nothing to do with religion.

Perhaps you might want to think over these things a bit more yourself, you entitled the thread “another view-atheism:” yet you use old (and frankly weak) arguments that don’t seem to be fully thought out, and it seems more like a phatic gesture on your part to convince yourself these things are true than actual arguments.

I’d rather ask you, why are you so determined to believe bad things about organized religion (and the Catholic Church in particular, since this is a Catholic forum) that you’re willing to spout silly nonsense like this. It’s one thing to be a thinking man’s atheist, and quite another to be an ignorant bigot. Take the chip off your shoulder and try again, howsabout?

And that is actually an insightful question. God could also give us all the pleasure we could possibly handle, so why does he allow us to take pleasure from others? God loves us infinitely, so why does he allow us to seek love from others and to love others in return. Why does he allow us to be generous with each other when he could give us everything we need directly?

The core of this question comes down to, would we really be better off if, here in this life, God directly answered every possible human need, without any human “assistance”. Would we be better off if we could never be generous (because God provides all material needs), if we could never love (because God provides all love), if we could never help and care for (because God does it all).

Would we really be better off if we never had to lift a finger for ourselves or another person? That’s the question the OP should investigate.
