I’ve been debating myself and discussing with others over a yoga video that focuses on stretches for kayaking. I’ve been looking for a program for stretching in general, but also for one specific such as this to help with the recreation I am involved in. I’m interested in it for the paddling connection, however, there is concern about the yoga part. Saint Paul states that all things are permissible, but not all things are beneficial.
Any advice?

Go do Yoga if you find it useful as a method of exercise or stretching. I don’t think the Church means for people to decide every single issue, major or minor or miniscule on what the Church may say.

I guess there are forms of yoga that are more spiritual in intention, which also may be just fine. There is certainly nothing in it that I ever found that referred to any religious ideas or practices. It’s just breathing and focus, which are marvelous stress reducers.

I don’t see a problem with stretching. Yoga does have a “spiritual side” (if it can really be called that in the truest sense) but as long as you avoid praying to ganesh or something I think you’ll be alright. the benefits are good. it really does help with a variety of things. I don’t think the Church forbids it, so long as you are just doing the stretches. “True Yoga” gets a little crazy when you look into it, though.
