Aside from function i.e., from the recipients of his message St. Paul argued adamently for his legitimacy? He is one of the Apostles. Function is not the primary determinant of meaning or you had better be prepared to demonstrate why a foot is not part of the body…

Given the paucity of insightful responses I would wonder something else. Perhaps we can get an answer here. Perhaps not. I wonder why some non Catholics make bold claims about their connection with Christ but when pushed cannot or will not demonstrate how this is so except simply to insist that it is their pleasure to insist upon such a thing?

“Other”.

This isn’t hard. There was a first century church which eventually became known as the Catholic Church or simply The Church. The first fundamental split of that body culminated in 1054 when the Catholic and Orthodox excomunicated each other. Both of those Churches have equal claim to the heritage of the first century church.

In the 1500s the next fundamental split occurred in the Western Branch of Christianity when the Churches of the Reformation either departed from the Catholic Church or were, again, excommunicated by the Catholic Church (depending on your particular view of history). Those Churches have the same connection to the heritage of the first century church as do their parent Church–the Catholic Church.

Likewise, despite our independence from Great Britain, Americans can rightfully claim the Magna Carta, English Common Law, and vestiges of various Acts of Parliment --through our common history as British subjects prior to our independence.

To what ancient Patriarch do all these protestant groups give allegience? I had not realized that all of the non-Catholic Churches believed in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Can you demonstrate this? I did not realize that all of the non Catholic groups honored Mary as the Theotokos? Can you show this? I did not realize that all non-Catholic Churches accepted the use of icons? Can you help us with this discovery? Where do we find out these amazing things?

You know the answers to these questions and the answers do not negate the line of heritage which I summarized above.

Simple rules of inheritance folks.

When an organization A divides upon itself, leaving as a result organizations A’ and B; both A’ and B are descendants of A.

Basic object oriented programming principles…

If Protestantism in any of its chaotic forms is related to the Church show how it is related to the Church. That’s all I’m asking. I understand that you borrowed our books and set up your own groups. You said that your desire was to reform the Church. But that is not what you have done. You set up separate little religions.

During the Reformation various Catholic Bishops in England, Germany and the Scandinavian countries became bishops in the Anglican and Lutheran Churches. Even more so with respect to priests. There is your connection.

my family is catholic, my ancestors come from all predominately catholic countries, Ireland and Lithuania.

Amen!
That is exactly what I was trying to say in my first post in this thread. Pure Truth.
