Answering Evangelicals who claim Catholics try to achieve our own salvation.

I’m having a debate with an Evangelical about “faith alone”. In an article she asked me to read, they point to CCC1477 …"in this way they attain their own salvation… and CCC1459 …“he must make satisfaction for or expiate his sins”… Please help me explain why these do not mean we think we can achieve our own salvation.
