How do you answer the call when your spouse calls you at work? I’m just curious. 🍿

DH and I had to get new numbers a while back when we switched services (we weren’t eligible to port), so if I ever have to call him on his work phone he answers the way he normally does because he doesn’t recognize the number. But he’s usually pretty friendly so it’s OK. 😉 But I only call him on his work number if it’s super important and I’ve tried his cell and he hasn’t answered. If he’s busy/in a meeting/etc. he’ll let the call go to voicemail. If I call him back a second time he knows it’s an emergency. (It works the same way when he calls me, though I’m usually a lot more available to answer unless my hands are covered in raw meat or human bodily fluids of one sort or another :p).

He has his own office so he has a fair degree of privacy for talking on the phone.

Looks like I’m the only one, so far, to answer the poll.

It totally depends on the day and what is going on at work.

My husband and have/had high stress jobs.

I’m a mom of three little ones and a pre-med student, my husband works full time in the military in a high stress job.

Before I became a mom I was a paramedic.

If its a bad day…you can hear it in our voices and we aren’t answering the phone like newly weds.

On a good day we will answer and be playful and flirty with each other.

I say “Hello”

I used to say more romantic things, but once there was a call from my wife’s cell phone and I said something like “hey, lover” and I heard “gross”. Guess my oldest daughter didn’t appreciate dad talking to her like that. Now I assume it’s one of my kids. 😉

When I call her she generally answers “what do you want?” Seems dealing with 4 little ones all day can make her a tad short sometimes. I expect when number 7 is here in January it will be shortened to “What?” 😃

Years ago, I answered the phone at my job and a coworker’s husband mistook my voice for hers, it took a few seconds for him to realize I wasn’t his wife. I did not let on to either one what had happened, poor man was mortified…😊

My husband doesn’t call me at work often but when he does, I normally just say “hey” because I’m in an open floor plan and I’m likely in the middle of a project or meeting. I’ll normally sign off a little more warmly. 😉

I never call him at work because I know he likely can’t answer (customer facing). So we generally stick to text.

Both of us answer the phone the way we normally would, no matter where we are.

I generally don’t call my husband at work unless I need to- he has a busy job and needs to focus. If I have a question or concern that isn’t urgent, I will email him. Otherwise if I need something I’ll call and he’ll answer unless he’s in a meeting. Usually he says “Hey hon” if he knows it’s me.

Joe calls me 3 times daily. On each break and at lunch. He tries to speak to me in Spanish. It’s hilarious. 😃

It depends…

How is my day at work going?

Why is she likely to be calling?

Who might overhear the conversation?

None of the above. Not like newlyweds, but closer than neighbor/friends.

Actually, we mostly text. It’s usually serious/important/trouble if she calls (car making weird noise, kids making weird noise, kid’s teacher making weird noise, etc.)

I’m not supposed to talk on the phone at work, so if my husband called me, I’d be really concerned that there was an emergency.

Ditto. Calling at work for either of us is a big no-no unless something awful happened.

I didn’t realize most people call each other when they are supposed to be working. I was always taught that was something you shouldn’t do. I don’t call him when he’s working and he doesn’t call me unless he is asking if he needs to pick anything up on his way home. When he’s deployed I can’t call him and he calls on his down time but if he’s stateside I would only call if it was an emergency. Thankfully that has not happened. My parents never called each other at/from work either.

Like others above, we text rather than call. Texting is limited to the three following scenarios:

  1. *]It’s lunchtime
*]One of us needs to make the other aware of some non-emergency situation that nevertheless can’t wait until evening
*]Failure to text will result in something being forgotten

Calling is reserved for anything that requires real-time rapid interaction, including but not limited to emergencies, so if one of us does call the other during a workday the response is usually something along the lines of “What’s wrong?” 😛

Same here. A quick text is okay once or twice day or so to share needed info, a laugh, etc. But my husband doesn’t like calls or frequent texts at work, it interrupts his flow. And we certainly say nothing suggestive. Cell phones are monitored. No one needs to know about our sex life. We save that for home. 👍

No cellphones allowed at work, and most people don’t have internet access to the outside world in my field.

But spouses are free to call anytime, and outside calls are common. I hear it from all my coworkers.

I usually call once or twice to see how the kids are doing especially when I work well into the night, mostly because I miss them.
