One of my atheist cousin, upon trying to get me to do acts that are sinful (if not merely scandalous) and I refused, is “talk to people” “look around the people”, etc. How should we refute this?

As to why I keep talking to him, and he talk to me: he want to know more about the entire extended family on my mother’s side (his father’s side)… who are all Catholics. (he technically is confirmed, but let’s treat him like an atheist for now). Personally, if he even just accept that’s how the family acts, and then either dive in or reject it, it would be easier for him.

“But Moooo-ooom, everybody else is doing it!”

“If everybody started jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you do that too?”

If they all came back to tell me how much they enjoyed it, I might try it.

Sounds like he’s trying to convert you and he’s using what is popular in the world as bait. You could actually do a lot with it - depending.
First – “why do you want to do that? or want me to do it?”
If the answer is, “everybody does” – that’s not much of a compelling reason to do something, and more importantly, “No, we don’t do those things”. Now it’s back to him to ask “why”.
That’s where you need to have a very good answer, and that’s where the discussion can move forward. Has your cousin thought about his spiritual growth - or even his growth in virtue as a man? Is there a quality of dishonesty, lack of integrity, theft, foolishness, lack of manliness - in what he wants you to do? Even just physical damage - we are given a body and mind to improve it and move towards God.

“Nothing much”, “just” going to strip club. Or completely seperate the church moral teaching on many other things.

“Not my thing, But hey if you want to go to Mass with me on Sunday, you could.”
