Answers for a Protestant on God's Will

I’m currently in the process of explaining Catholic belief to a Protestant, and am discovering how self-interpretation of the Bible can be very illogical, ie when Jesus said that we needed to be Baptized with both water and Spirit, she says that the ‘water’ indicates the actually physical birth from the watery world of the womb. 0.o
Anyway, I brought up the verse where Jesus says we need to follow the Father’s will (Mt 17:4, I think). So, I need to find Biblical references to what God’s will is, because she’s the type that believes that sin doesn’t really matter, and once Saved, always Saved. She asked me if I followed the 10 Commandments, in surprise that anyone would! 0.o I am so baffled at her logic… Even though I showed her the verse where Jesus asked a man if he followed the Commandments. Are there any more good, OBVIOUS, straight-out verses where Jesus tells us what His Father’s will is?
 
Matthew 22: 39The second most important commandment is like this one. And it is, “Love others as much as you love yourself.” 🙂
 
If she is fundamentalist, good luck. She will not change her mind. The fundamentalist mindset is based on individual correct interpretation. They cannot let go of that. If they do, they have no faith. So mostly, don’t bother unless you believe she is really questioning whether she is correct.

Of course, the degree to which all Christians sects seek to destroy Catholic supremacy suggests that subconsciously they do indeed fear they are wrong. It is only by destroying us that they can be correct you see.

I don’t know what she is, actually… I’ll continue discussing this with her, even if it’s just so I can learn some more about my own faith. If she converts, it will because God moved her through me, not because of anything I did or didn’t say. 🙂

John 6:29 – the will of the Father is that you believe the one whom he has sent. The context makes plain that “the one he has sent” is Jesus.

I like Isaiah 1:17 and Hosea 6:8 and Micah 6:6. You can’t say that Jesus erased those verses with his New Covenant.
