Anti-Abortion Group Loses Tax Exemption

The Internal Revenue Service this week revoked the tax exemption of an anti-abortion group, Operation Rescue West, after receiving a complaint that it had violated prohibitions on electioneering by nonprofits in 2004.

The group had promised tax deductions for contributions to help defeat the Democratic presidential candidate, Senator John Kerry.

The organization said the agency’s ruling would have little impact on its operations.

Too bad they are not as consciencious when it comes to some other organizations like Planned Parenthood, AARP and some of the unions I will not mention.

AARP does not back candidates. Operation Rescue also seems to think pornography and homosexuality are some of the things hurting America, both of which have basis only in religious beleif and are not supported by modern law to be something which harms America.

Therefore the organization is religiously partisian, and not eligible for government favors under the Seperation of Church and State.

In fact, legally speaking, since abortion is now legal, no anti-abortion organization should strictly be eligible for things like tax exempt statuses. I’d say great leeway is already offered many organizations such as this, considering they were only removed from the status after boldly attempting to violate a long-standing agreement between the state and religiously-motivated institutions.

To say nothing of the little fact that ORW is now being investigated by the IRS for money-laundering, and organization leader Newman for tax evasion, a fact noticeably absent from the original post. Very moral of them.

Sounds like they were asking for it. Break the rules, get your toys taken away.

Where does it say that groups opposed to current law are not eligible for a tax exemption? Under this thinking, since marriage is defined as a union between one man and one woman, all groups opposed and which want to change the law should not receive a tax exemption.

That is, as stated, by the strictest definition, which I do not hold by. Regardless, those groups are not attempting to be moral watchdogs, as is ORW.

Of course, all this is moot seeing as how they are currently suspected of illegal financial activites, which one would think would rightfully earn them removal from the list.

I did not mention the others because they do back candidates. Simple enough explanation.

Please prove to me AARP backs candidates. I will require proof with non-partisian sources, not word of mouth or conspiracy theories.

Still no response to ORW’s alleged law-breaking? I’m eagerly awaiting something on that.

LOL, “moral watchdogs” .

If you haven’t noticed, our government is a moral watchdog.
Laws against prostitution, and beastiality for example, or laws determining age of consent. So it’s really very ridiculous to believe that “modern law” regulate morals at all, right? Since there is a separation of church and state? LOL.

But you’re right, if they’re bein’ illegal with money, then they shouldn’t get it.

Though I feel you mean modern as in newly created in interpretation or in the books. But truth is, those who live there make the rules. And if they are religious, then it’s their right to make laws about such things. States rights, baby.

And really, if the Government can take money from those who don’t support abortion, then it can give it to those that don’t support abortion.
