Things have been getting ugly online and in the real world in regards the Pennsylvanian Sex Scandal

Fundementals cry “Whore! Whoer of Babylon! Satanic Sex Practice!” telling people like me to stop playing video games watching cartoons and being catholic “Reptent-Repent-Repent!”

Atheists state how this shows the church is secretly evil

Both say Celibacy is an ancient lie

What should I do? I know the church is the true bride of Christ but the pressure and fear of Hell can be so overwhelming especially being emotionally beaten over your head by others who play on fear

I’d just ignore them. Even athiest communities have their problems with sexual misconduct. People just attack the Church because they never liked it in the first place and this is a good opportunity to pounce on it.

Fr Mike in one of his videos said he was called a child molester randomly in public because he wears the collar. He said something about how it’s unfair for him, but he realized what the kids went through was a lot more painful.

I’m not that holy, lol. I would counter ridiculous claims but acknowledge that the scandal was so huge and serious

What should I do?
Never respond to people like this. Ignore them and move on with your life.

If this is just something that you are encountering on the internet then you need to realize that the internet is a magnifier for the malcontents of society who chose to put their opinions on it. They are actually very few and small. You would most likely never even knew they existed but for the internet.

The scandal is a scandal , and it’s about as worse as one can get . We have to admit to it .

“If anyone causes one of these little ones–those who believe in me–to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

But , @Retro_Ace , avoid the stuff online which troubles you .

Don’t enter into any dialogue with them. They want to argue and they are never going to listen you your answer. The Church the body of Christ has answered this, the Pope has made a reply, reparation has begun. Remember Jesus at His trial He had said all that had to be said and said very little then. He gave the people time to repent as He is now. It was time for Him to take on our sins and do the reparation and penance and it is our time to do this for the Church, the body of Christ, so we should be praying and fasting and doing acts of reparation and penance, as is happening all over the world. Praying for the victims and the sinners. Jesus does not want any souls to be lost and neither should we. Jesus is the head and the Church the body, the battle is not lost, we have plenty of work to do praying and fasting, as Jesus said we are to do, when the Bridegroom has gone.

Don’t waste your time worrying about people who don’t have a clue. Some people do not understand and are not willing to try to understand. While I think it’s good to be informed of what’s going on, there is something to be said about having some detachment about the news, including Catholic news, and online discussions. The spiritual life is completely separate from this and we have to be careful to not let our spiritual life be affected negatively by this.

With that said, remind me to take my own advice.

the internet is a magnifier for the malcontents of society…ignore them
.
Well, the internet is a magnifier of all of society, not just the malcontents. You have “the good, bad and ugly”. They used to say that about New York City…lol

Not healthy to ignore them…the Bad and the Ugly had to be faced and dealt with by the Good, avoiding a bullet in the back.

You should turn the computer off and take a walk through a nice park and then go to Church, pray to Jesus that he brings all these people to Christ and helps the Pope and bishops resolve the sex scandals.

You are not going to be changing the minds of people who rant on the Internet by arguing back at them. Pray for them instead and ignore their ravings. You will be happier and prayer has a greater chance of succeeding.

Know what else is on the Internet?
The rosary
The Liturgy of the Hours
The Way of the Cross
Daily Masses
Various Novenas
Various Prayers & Petitions
Various Catholic Forums
The Bible
Bible Studies
and much more.
Be selective as to what enters your head.

When I come under attack for my faith, I pray, as our Saints and Martyrs did, and recall the Master’s teaching’s and witness by example. I can suffer no more than my Master who suffered for me during His Passion. I can never do it alone, without God’s Presence in me. On a personal level, I thank them and admit to them, that I am the most pitiful of all sinners, pray for me, and walk away giving thanks to God to be worthy to suffer a persecution for my faith in Jesus Christ. If? your not prayed up or have not fasted… admit the wrong, be truthful, that God revealed that the Church will always suffer persecution at the gates of hell, but the gates of hell will NEVER prevail., many false teachers will come against the Church, and God will expose them in the light.

Matt.5:10 Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on [your] right cheek, turn the other one to him as well.

John 15:18 “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. 20 Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.

What should I do?
I would get information on a defense and provide it for the person making the attack. If they won’t listen and just want to argue then I would not respond but at least I gave them something to think about and maybe planted a seed. We must remember that we have great saints in our Church and many sinners. When I have provided information and told many how much Catholics are offended by the terrible acts and many parish people are praying for victims many but not all see that this is an issue owned by the Church and the laity.

My two cents- -Immerse yourselves in reading not just about the lives of the saints but also their direct words and ideas. There’s no greater remedy for this kind of negativity than the thoughts of those who lived and breathed holiness, and who operate on a completely different level.

And yes, avoid these negativity promoting sites!

It’s tough. Even people who were raised Catholic and know better have made stupid comments regarding the faith, even before these recent revelations. Pray for them all.
