I have a neighbor who is a born-again…I happened to tell him I’ve been reading and posting to a Catholic messageboard which is apologetical in nature (he knows I am not Catholic, btw.)
He lent me two DVDs that are put out by Protestants, and they seem designed to convert Catholics. He said he wanted me to watch them so I can “know what that church is all about”. (lol)
One is about apparitions of Mary, and the other contains testimonies of ex-Catholics who became bornagain Christians (from after Vatican II…much of that video is foreign to me since my only real exposure to Catholicism is via my mother’s family, and none of them stayed in the church after “the changes” of the 1970s).
Anyway…one thing I noticed about each DVD: they are very vague at first as to who puts them out or what their true focus is…you have to get about 75% through one of them (the Mary apparitions one) before they hit you with the Protestant message. That video also uses a couple of narrators who have heavy Irish accents…again, perhaps to make unsuspecting Catholics assume its a pro-Catholic video so they’ll keep watching it.
The producer of one of them is “Eternal Productions”, which I gathered right away is intended to confuse unsuspecting Catholics, by sounding like “Eternal Word” (EWTN, Mother Angelica’s station). The other is put out by something called “Lumen”, which also “sounds Catholic”.
I realize now that, just as evangelical Protestants “dress” in Jewish “clothing” to throw off unwary Jews, so they’ll listen to their preaching, they are doing the same to unwary Catholics…by “dressing” in Catholic “clothing”.
Deception is deception…whether its done by Christians posing as Jews or Protestants posing as Catholics. Funny thing is, because I have been trained as a Jewish countermissionary to spot deceptive practices on the part of “messianic jews” (evangelical Protestant missionaries to Jews), I am also able to see the same tactics when used by evangelical Protestants trying to convert Catholics!
