It’s sad to think of something as such and so oppressive and abusive done in the name of Christianity and the Bible.
Mary.
Mary.
I think this family really went off the rails with the home-churching thing - it is awfully easy to become misled when you self-interpret the scriptures. But she sounds really bitter about not completing her education, birth control, etc - all of this plays well with the audience she was addressing - American Atheists. As she says, her “primary break up was with Jesus.”Very Sad. I suppose she is now very happy having discarded her marriage, her God and taken the advice of the unbiased counselors to destroy the heritage of her life. It is so sad that she had to be shown an abuse wheel to realize what a terrible husband she had.
Bruised Reed: -10Sounds like the responses were super-charitable too.

I agree. Compared to the swill that is spewed on TV on a daily basis, this show is refreshing and has many redeeming qualities. He is obviously parroting remarks of his pastor, or his parents. Misguided, but compared to what is coming out of certain ranks of the current Catholic media, his comments are juvenile and not all that offensive in my opinion.I think that “19 Kids and Counting” represents an excellent and refreshing alternative to the horrible violence, vulgarity, and sexually sinful nonsense that is normally presented to people via television, books and movies. Their beautiful family who are taught by their Mom and Dad (Michelle and Jim Bob) to remain pure until marriage, to not use artificial contraception, to be against abortion and to praise and love Jesus Christ, God the Father and the Holy Spirit have been an incredible inspiration to me. I am a cradle Catholic who agrees with the Duggars on all of these issues. He is parroting the rants of many anti-Catholic arguments which have been argued and preached down through the ages.
I can guarantee that some of them are. I worked in a place where a few reality stars came through for their shows. We had to rope off part of the restaurant, Choose which people they wanted sitting at a table near them, then they pretended to be sitting down to a meal. It was a sandwich with some bites taken out of them (not by the stars themselves) while the mother fussed at the son about not eating his sandwich…etc etc.. I don’t find “reality” shows interesting because they are actually scripted, so I could be underestimating his importance.
Geo if you would share those things on which you think the Church has deviated from the Bible I would be happy to discuss those issues with you. Hopefully we can dispel those misconceptions. Why just hang on when Christ sent one visible fellowship, one Church, the pillar and ground of truth, with a teaching authority which he promised to lead into all truth. Infallible truth, not hit and miss guess truth.I personally think the Vatican deviated too much from the Bible. But the protestant groups can’t agree on what is right and what is wrong. Except for Jesus and His death for our sins. So again, hang onto that.
Have you ever been to Washington DC aren’t there statues all over the place? Why, because they represent heros of the country. Statues in the Church represent Christian heros. We might kneel down in front of a statue and ask that saint it represents to pray for us. But we never worship or pray to a statue any more than a visitor to a war memorial who knells down praying at a war memorial is worshiping or praying to a statue of a war hero.As I go back into Catholic churches after being away a long time, there are too many statues of Mary and other saints.
We have in the tabernacle something far better than a statue. We have Christ truly present. On the main altar, the focal point of every Catholic Church, Christ is again not only made present to us that we may eat from the tree of life the cross. But the sacrifice of the cross is made present to us and to the Father a living memorial sacrifice. There’s 1 of Jesus alone, as an adult, if we’re lucky. And it’s never on the alter as the main statue. There is also too much asking Mary and saints for favors, and not enough asking God and Jesus.
Fatima has been approved and several popes have been there. Pope John Paul II beatified two of the three children who saw the visions, Francisco and Jacinta and the third Lucia was present ( I was also) at the beatification. Lucia was 93 years old. I have know doubt, through the prayers of Our Lady of Fatima, I was lead into the Catholic Church from a Protestant non-denomination.With Catholics, some of Mary’s apparitions are deemed really her. Others are suspect. This is a serious concern. We all agree there is a devil, and we all agree he has been attacking the church of God for centuries, at least. Even Mary said Satan has infiltrated her sons’s church. Btw, Mary’s appearance in Fatima is what made me interested in this. Her appearances in Medjugorje also got me interested, but as far as I know the Vatican has not approved those.
I would say Mary was in heaven when John wrote Revelation.I ask myself is it possible Jesus brought His mother to Heaven after the Bible was finished? It could be. Jesus is God and can do anything He wants to.
Amen. There are more issues than I know of. I’ll end with this. We are all Christians because we all believe God was born as a human to die for our sins.
Lol! I love how he says, “Where [Catholics] depart from the Scripture…” The Catholics COMPILED the Bible you fool! You Evangelicals (Christians come lately) wouldn’t have the Bible without the Catholic Church.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2703428/Jessa-Duggars-Christian-boyfriend-Ben-Seewald-deletes-anti-Catholic-Facebook-rant.html
I have a lot of thoughts on this but my concern is that if this is how he thinks this shows love and concern for Catholics, then I wonder what he thinks love is? Kinda curious what this kid thinks since the Duggars were pretty open in their support for Rick Santorum. Equally sad is that they go on mission trips to central and south America most likely to “convert” Catholics down there. It is always interesting that fundamentalist Christians are very quick to point out what they think is un-Biblical teaching of the Catholic Church yet fail to look at their own problems and heresies. Thoughts on this?
