Anti-Catholic Hate on Internet

I was really naive about all the hatred towards our faith for a long time, too. It wasn’t until I came back home this past fall that I started really seeing it. The only other reason I can think of, other that what the OP said, is that the Truth hurts and the people who are making these horrible accusations against Catholicism are ignorant.

Or very afraid of something they don’t understand.

I definitely know what you mean. I’m even thinking about stopping to go to those other forums because the anger just builds up inside me but I also want to help set the record straight and hopefully will lead at least one person back home. Jack Chick is just evil. After reading his stuff, it seems he isn’t even Christian and just writes things for shock value.

When I’m having religious discussions in the “real world”, I never hear this vile hatred that permeates throughout the internet in regards to the Catholic Church. I don’t know if people are holding it in and just don’t want to say it or the people online who say this stuff are the vast minority and most aren’t like this. I pray it’s the latter. Yeah I know how you feel. I mean I love surfing the Net (hey when you run a Net cafe, it can’t be helped) but it really… ugh… burns me to see people spreading this garbage about my religion. It’s even worse on YouTube with all those stupid fundie street preachers not to mention those fatheaded sectarians from the UK. And don’t even get me started on those anti-theists… Personally if I see the name ‘Richard Dawkins’ or the words ‘Blasphemy Challenge’ one more time I’m gonna… AARGHHH!!

Man, I envy those other Catholics whose patience far outweighs mine when dealing with such bigots.

I mean how do you guys deal with this without wanting to punch these haters in the nose? I mean no matter what you say, they still don’t wanna admit the errors of their anti-Catholic misconceptions…

I find quite a few anti-Catholic comments on a screenwriting website I participate in. It seems they take any excuse, no matter how remotely related to attack Catholicism. And as someone said, the biggest protesters seem to be former Catholics and people who simply don’t know what they’re talking about. Whenever I see comments such as these on that site, I am obligated to refute them. The last time it happened I was physically affected and got a painful headache immediately upon reading a nasty response to one of my comments. Besides attacking my religion, he tried to put blame on me. I did have the last word, however, accusing him of being confused. (I really would have loved to say something else but managed to control myself). An aside: Today in a book store, I turned an athiest book the other way around so the title wouldn’t show. Just couldn’t help it. I’ve had it with the enemy!

I live in a very Catholic community. It wasn’t until I bought a computer that I discovered how much anti-Catholicism is out there. Wow what an eye opener , so many lies and mis truths it is just mind boggling. When I read my first Jack Chick tract I just couldn’t believe it! I really had no idea that others thought things like that about the Catholic faith.

Good topic, but it isn’t Sprituality.

One must stand up strong against discrimination, hate is damaging.

Being raised in a Catholic neighborhood, it always causes me inner turmoil when I see vitriolic and bigoted attacks against the Catholic Church…I can understand people who are honest and reasonable but some people just insult and attack the Church for fun or deep seated hatred

Someone once said, “Attack them where it hurts the most.” The Catholic Church is the complete deposit of Faith. The devil fears what can hurt him most and thats the complete truth. So he attacks it relentlessly. He tries to scandalize it, and damage it, but in the end the Church is triumphant. The Catholic Church is the last to stand by the truth when it comes to many issues facing our society today. This must drive the devil crazy. So it makes sense that he would attack it more fiercely. But be not afraid, Christ has won the victory for us. Just reach out and claim it.

I just don’t get it. There are so many sites out there in the Worldwide Web as well as other forums and there is just so much hate for the Catholic Church. Why is that? I see other disputes among different denominations in those forums and even though they most definitely disagree, they dont break down and start throwing insults left and right like when they get into a discussion with us. Why do they hate us so much? Is this part of the prophecy that Jesus was talking about when He said that the world will hate you because they hated Me (Jesus) first? When I heard that verse, I never thought our Protestant brothers and sisters would be part of that world. God bless.

Visit the Traditional Catholicism forum and see for yourself how those faithful to Traditon are treated.

A long time ago, someone said “look how they love one another”.
I would suspect that few say that after browsing the TC forum.

some times it is a battle of the uber trads and unfortuantly such rules forget the first word of the first rule… LOVE God, LOVE your neighbour.

If you ever want to see the most vile attacks, read the comments after any AOL article on anything remotely related to Catholicism.

The same is true for videos on YouTube. Usually the anti-Catholic statements are on videos in some way related to Catholicism, but probably 10% of the anti-Catholic comments I’ve seen over there were on videos that had nothing to do with the Church. I can understand anti-Catholic comments on anti-Catholic videos, but what drives someone to watch videos of the Pope or of Masses and make comments?

Idiots like that think they’re doing us a favor by taking their heretical propaganda to videos most likely are being watched by Catholics. It’s no different from brainless, airheaded street preachers protesting outside a rock concert.

Very true. It would be nice sometimes to be able to relax and watch an inspiring video without feeling I need to get my apologist hat out though.

Well, before computers you would have to do it face to face or without so much anomytity(sp). Alot of these cowards that hide behind the monitors of their computer would never have the courage to say those hateful things to someones face. There are exceptions but I think for the most part, people hide behind their computer screens.
