I am a student at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. I am on another campus, so I wasn’t there during the desecration. I will, however, say two things. First of all, on top of the unacceptable act, the University has made no efforts to make justice in the matter. We know what student’s association did this (they are called “contrapoder”), they posted it on their blog along with pictures of the whole ordeal which were copied by the Spanish newspaper ABC before they removed them. The University has not dissolved this association, which is allocated funds payed for by students through our tuition and by all Spaniards through taxes. They are doing nothing.
The second thing I would mention is that I am in complete agreement with the post that mentioned the connection to World Youth Day. The Enemy will always attack when he knows that God’s grace is acting. The Church is waking up and galvanizing as the pope’s visit, and that of pilgrims from all over the world come to Spain. These attacks will only serve in the end to make us yet more aware of our responsibility to defend our faith and to be witnesses to it.
This Friday there will be a mass in reparation for the act (at 13:30, Spanish time), “misa de desagravio” we call it, I’m not sure of the translation. Please say a prayer for us and for the people who perpetrated this heinous act.
¡VIVA CRISTO REY!
