I was reading an article that referred me to this website. My

understanding of Greek is rudimentary at best, so I’m hoping someone

here can answer the assertion that Jesus rebukes His mother at the wedding feast of Cana. Thank you for your help.

Jesus does not rebuke his mother at all. He says she is blessed for a greater reason then one just mentioned in the event being told.

He is responding to a woman who cries out from the crowd “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that you sucked!” (Lk 11:27), and Jesus replies, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” ( Lk 11:28).

Jesus is saying that the fact that Mary bore him does not make her blessed, but rather the fact that she heard God’s word and kept it.

And once again we see that Mary is an example for us all. We do not have to be Christ’s mother to be blessed. We need only hear God’s word and keep it.
