The idea here is a place to discuss Anti-Catholic attacks, arguments, books, tracts, etc. Of course, actual anti-Catholics and other Protestants are welcome to join in the discussion and present their views and ideas. I would like for the discussions to remain charitable…I know this issue can spark a lot of emotion on both sides. However, I think it is a worthy topic. As Bishop Sheen stated, “Not 100 people hate the Catholic Church; but there are many who hate what they think is the Catholic Church.”

You could fill several books with this kind of stuff. Oh wait, Karl Keating has already done that! 🙂

Has anyone ever heard of A. Jan Marcussen? I haven’t until today. There was small book/long tract that was delivered to my house today via the U.S. mail. The book is called “National Sunday Law” By the author stated above. I am only about halfway through it but it is certainly anti-Catholic. The main point is that the Catholic Church is the whore of babylon and the Pope is the “beast” that “man of sin” and the terrible “son of perdition.” It uses all of the same old worn out arguments. The author claims that the Pope claims to be God on earth and that mere men in the church claim the power to forgive sims, etc., etc. These arguments against the church are sooooooo boring. And, what is it with the Anti-Catholics? Even after we point out that we DO NOT beleive in something- such as the Pope be ing God on earth- they refuse to beleive it. Is this often a case of “invinicble ignorance.” ???

More like willful ignorance, or denial. I don’t know why some people put so much effort into hating us, or anyone else for that matter. There are so many better ways to spend one’s time.

I know. I recently read Catholicism and Fundamentalism. It was a really good book and spurrded on my interest in this topic. Funny thing is, I used to be “one of them” until I came home to Rome a few years ago. So, I guess to answer my own question, not all of them are full of ignorance about the Church. 🙂

Again, does anyone know anything about: A. Jan Marcussen? And here is another; Does anyone know anything about Rand Windburn? Rand has a site called iconbusters.com or .org. It is REALLY blasphemus. Especially the anti-christ photo album.

Jan Marcussen or Pastor Marcussen as he is often know is a Seventh-Day Adventist who runs a private ministry from IL. if memory serves me correctly. He teaches for the most part, mainstream SDA doctrine regarding their beliefs about the Catholic Church and the end of times, but does it with about 1/8th of the tact and charm that most SDA ministers try to use. His is kind of an “in your face” ministry, and while his ministry is not sponsored by the Church it is supported pretty much exclusively by SDA’s.

You can see his website at: www.wbns.us* and *www.reg6.com.

To my knowledge he is not currently a credentialed SDA minister, but was at one time in Florida.

Hope this helps…

I have never heard of Rand Wilburn, but from doing a google on him it appears as though some of his material is sold in some of the independent SDA publishing outlets. I am guessing like Jan Marcussen he is an SDA with his own independent “ministry” if one could call it that. But I do not know, he does not give any personal info. on his website… I am sure that is because fears some Jesuit conspiract theory… who knows?

Good info! I appreciate it. You should go check out his web site…it is amazing. (in a bad way). That’s right. i forgot that the Jesuits control the world. They did kill Lincoln, didn’t they?

I received National Sunday Law book in my mailbox too. When I read it I was shocked at what it said. At the time I did not know if what it said was true or not. I am a person that thinks for themselves and does not follow the herd just because someone told me to. I research and need to see for myself what the sources say. After a year of research, studying the Bible and reading statements and doctrines in the Catholic Catechisms and other Catholic books, I have been able to verify that everything that Jan Marcuassen recorded in the National Sunday Law book is factual. I know it is hard to believe the truth, especially when it may hurt. But the truth will make you free. And Jesus is the Truth. So if you love Jesus you can not possibly hate truth. No one is attacking individual Catholics as there are many loving people in all denominations and backgrounds. It is the doctrine and the history of the Catholic institution that sets it apart from the teachings of the Bible. People must study their Bibles and trust in the Word of God, not man. If your teacher is teaching something contrary to Scriptures then know for a fact that that teacher is not of God. I love all people and mean well in my statements here. I just felt the need to share my testimony of this book, since someone inquired. Jesus said that the way others will know if we are His deciples is by the way we love one another. I hope we can share love and not hate, and grow in truth! Amen

Whenever the topic of anticatholicism comes up, I try to check and see if the term gets defined. Usually it isn’t, and it seems that any dissenting opinion is labeled anticatholic.

While discussing the topic here a few years ago, there seemed to arise a consensus that the term referred to “disagreeing impolitely.” But, of course, that was just a few of us working on the question.

What do you say? Can you come up with a definition so that everything inside it is anticatholic, and everything outside of it should not be called anticatholic?

Replace the word anti-mormon with anti-catholic and mormon church with catholic church and you will come to a good definition as stated in this defintion linked with perhaps one difference:

**Anti-Mormons generally feel that the existence of the Mormon Church is detrimental to themselves or others based on religious, political, or social reasons. Since the establishment of the Mormon Church, there have always been anti-Mormon sentiments and even groups. **

As Bishop Sheen stated, “Not 100 people hate the Catholic Church; but there are many who hate what they think is the Catholic Church.”
Not 100 people hate the Catholic Church; what is hated is Catholicism.

Do you hate Catholicism?
No.
There is no difference between the two, my friend, regardless of your opinion.
The Catholic Church is the people who believes in catholicism. I dont think thats what anti-catholics really hate. Catholicism is what catholics say & do in the name of religion. Now that is something that would be hated by people whose beliefs conflicts with catholicism.

The Church is NOT only the people “who believe in Catholicism”.

Once again, check out the catechism (CCC re: Church).

What you’re TRYING to say is that some people hate the dogmas of the Church. That is true, mostly because they don’t know what those dogmas actually are, and because the dogmas of the Church would restrict them from hurting themselves (and others).

People want what they want, and hate those who suggest that there are reasons for not wanting those harmful things.

See the 10 Commandments, and explanations for basing behavior on them as per the CCC (catechism).

What is your point in asking the obvious? Do you not agree with my statement(s), and if not why?
