Faith1960. You asked . . .
It’s not just you. I thought they were Muslims, but I think someone said they are ex Muslims.
Here is the local Las Vegas news video of this shenanigans.

They are self-described “ex-Muslims.”**

(Now apparently they are alleging themselves to be “turned Christians”).

Church Militant. In post 22
, you mentioned (and linked to your fine blog post on) Iconoclasm.😊 Thanks. I am an unworthy servant. I have only done what is expected of me. (Luke 17:10)
I think we are seeing at least by some of these Las Vegas Mass rabble-rousers, a proverbial importation of their remnants of Islamic iconoclasm
, commingled with our Fundamentalist Christian friends and acquaintances iconoclasm.

The result does NOT look pretty. That is certainly possible and especially if these individuals are converts from fundamentalist Islam to fundamentalist Christian because the mindsets are not that much different

I do believe that we all need to keep a good situational awareness and be prepared to act as needed to interdict people in incidents like this (or, God forbid, worse).

This is yet another example if ignorant people ignorantly pushing their ignorance in other people’s faces. Their mindset from fundamental Islam is no different from their new fundamental Christianity: “Worship the way I say is right, or else you are damned…because there is NO WAY I am wrong here…no matter what!”.

It would be nice if they’d have the common decency to wait outside and confront Catholics in a way that fosters dialog. Then you might reason with them and show them that, in the same way their attachment to Islam was wrong, despite how “right” they thought they were, so also their attachment to watered-down 19th century Christianity is also wrong.

But that’s not the situation here. They are interrupting Mass. I’m appalled that the police said they didn’t really break any laws. Um, Freedom to Worship?!?! I honestly don’t know what I would do in this situation. I like the idea of a sudden call to public praying of the Chaplet, but the Priest is not supposed to stop the Mass for ANYTHING. It would fall on someone from the congregation to stand up and make that call while the Priest continues with Mass.

If I am around anyway…though I live a long way from Vegas.

I always sit near the front at Mass and take note of anything that seems out of place or odd just in case. Fortunately we have a couple of cops in the congregation and they are allowed to carry, which is some comfort. I know that there are a number of people who are martial artists as well if needed. 🤷

I do thank God that none of us Catholics do these kinds of things to n-Cs. Charity cuts both ways…
I wonder what they knuckleheads would have done if someone challenged them, not physically because they’re probably expecting that, but asking them to explain themselves and then opening a can of Catholic theology (Edited) on them.

My guess is that they probably wouldn’t want any of that, because they’re not equipped to handle a confrontation like that.

Dealing with people like this reminds me of dealing with a bully when I was a kid, he was real tough until I decided to look him in the eye and stand up for myself, then he wanted no part of me. Handling this situation like that might also be of benefit, in that it could show others in the congregation that these people (Edited) have nothing to offer (if they didn’t realize that already).

Of course, I don’t think I’ll ever have to worry about this happening to me, I live in the South, and we don’t have much tolerance for that type of nonsense.

I would not condone it, but I imagine what might happen if someone entered an abortion clinic to confront doctors and patrons about their activities. I would not condone it because of those consequences.

Its really the same thing, as long as you are not threatening in nature, anyone is free to go anywhere and voice their opinion, however the ‘threatening nature’ is the key word here, what is threatening to some is not to others, and vice verse, so…

I think if this had happened in my current parish, a few of the male parishioners would have likely went and tried to deal with them, encouraging them to leave, and limit the disruption, but if this had happened at my old Pentecostal church, I think the preacher would have engaged them directly, by asking questions they are not likely to be ready for and thus, teaching them a lesson.

It looks like the priest was at the ambo, maybe giving the homily? I wonder if he needed to stop the mass? How long were these people in the church?

They are young in the faith , these brothers need prayer and some guidance from a priest

Perhaps in this age of infidelity and apostasy we should be preparing for more such events.

However, there is nothing wrong, IMHO, with escorting them out with force if necessary. They are thugs using Christianity as their excuse to terrorize a peaceful worship service. Meanwhile, hymns and prayers can also focus the congregation.

Is it just me, or does the narrator seem to have a middle eastern accent??
You need to be extremely careful about that. I belong to a large parish and we’ve had our share of intruders. One early Sunday morning we had a visit by some wacko really trying to stir things up.

I just couldn’t take it. Feeling that angry in church wasn’t doing my health or my spirituality any favors so I got up and walked out. The wacko decided to follow and then physically attack me.

Even though he lost consciousness fairly soon thereafter, the exchange was savage. Even though he was arrested, I ended-up having to pay a lawyer to defend me in a bogus civil suit. It also polluted what used to be a very safe place for me in a godly way. Not good.

Which is why I recommend the daily Miraculous Medal prayer of the Militia Immaculata (founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe) which says

"O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee, and for all those who do not have recourse to thee, especially the enemies of holy Church and all those recommended to thee."

Yeah, that’s a valid concern, but all the more reason to insure that we respond in groups…both for safety and for security of having multiple witnesses…

I’m glad you weren’t hurt physically. Did your parish put in place any protocols with their greeters to assist in case of future such incidents?

At the risk of sounding paranoid, they could be Muslim and it could be a trick.
how is one to know? I am happy they are Christians now (if they are), but I am sorry they were converted by a sect that is so anti-Catholic.
I would have been scared to be sitting there and having a disruption like that in the middle of a worship service.

It is normal to be scared, but I think it’s important to not let that fear for our own safety inhibit us from action to insure the safety of all present. I for one have no intention of just sitting in a pew and allowing these kinds of people to remain and not intervene to remove them so that they cannot be a threat to others especially the priest and the Eucharist. If I get hurt…I’ll offer it up for their souls, but I will not sit by and let them take over a Mass.

As King David says in Psalm 144:1-2

Blessed be the LORD, my rock, ******
who trains my hands for battle,
my fingers for war;

My safeguard and my fortress,
my stronghold, my deliverer,
My shield, in whom I take refuge,
who subdues peoples under me.

I was surprised how no one did anything. I am not sure why they finally left, but they had plenty of time to make their point. I am glad it was during the homily and not during the 2nd half of the Mass.

If you listen carefully you will hear one of them comment that they have to hurry before the police arrive. These guys know that what they are doing is both wrong and illegal. Essentially cowards…
