Jame White’s sole purpose in life is to defend his form of reformed theology. This has resulted in his life-long attack on the Catholic Church (see the list of 38 debates with Catholics http://www.aomin.org/aoblog/2011/01/19/available-debates-by-dr-james-white/).

As a recent convert to the Church, I love listening to/reading debates between Protestants and Catholics, and James White has supplied me a lot of material. But I’d like to diversify. What other Protestants do you know of who go after Catholicism as fiercely as White?

“Pastor” Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church.

eh…Anderson is hardly comparable to White…he’s a KJV-onlyist

My main frustration with the Protestants who attack Catholicism is that they rarely handle the actual Catholic arguments. James White attempts to do this. Most others never actually interact with Catholicism. I remember being so upset when I was leaving Protestantism because all my Protestant leaders wouldn’t address the arguments I was now confronted with.

James White actually confronts those arguments…though he fails.

I believe White couldn’t even stop his own sister from becoming Catholic.
Hearing his voice makes me want to run to the Church. I can’t imagine growing up with him.

I think this guy is asking about serious educated debaters. Anderson is neither. I had to reword my response Sax as it was not very Christian.

Anderson is a fruitcake. His name was the first that came to my mind when thinking about anti-Catholics. I don’t think there are any truly intellectual anti-Catholics. Any serious intellect would eventually see that Catholicism is the One True Faith.

Scott Hahn was anti Catholic. Cradle Catholics should understand that serious Protestants brought up as such are of a totally different paradigm. I mean just like some one brought up in Islam. Or better yet as someone brought up in the CC. Being steeped in something doesn’t make one unintillectual, it does however shade the way you see things. I’m head over heels for this faith and a year ago I was vehemently anti Catholic. I was a voracious reader but saw everything through a Protestant lens. I would have sworn the CC was the whore of Babylon. It’s not intillectually challenged. It’s more spiritual blindness.

This is very true, but there comes a point where spritiual blinders can only explain away so much. In may of these Protestant - Catholic debates, even with the competent Protestant speakers, they almost never attack what the Church actually teaches. They attack caricatures, misrepresentations, misunderstandings, or flat out lies / propaganda, but they rarely ever actually attack what the Church teaches.

Blinders may explain why they think the way they do, but it rarely explains why they never seem to get the facts about what the Church teachers right.

Exactly. Nobody who sincerely researches the Catholic Faith will remain protestant for long. White and others like him never get beyond their false and biased notions and hence remain separated from the true Church.

Robert Jeffress, John Hagee, Doug Batchelor, Dave Hunt, and Matt Slick are a few that come to mind as well as numerous “street preachers.”

Generally any of the Calvinists can be assumed to be virulently anti-Catholic. Seems to be endemic to Reformed theology.

Ex-Catholic atheists are often our toughest opponents. They seem to know the faith better than some practicing ones.

My experience has been that ex-Catholics don’t know Catholic teaching at all.
