I know some non-Rome-ward Anglo-Catholics who see Newman as mostly wielding a poisoned pen after his decision to convert. The reality is Protestantism has a huge diversity of opinions and most educated ones, especially Lutherans and Episcopalian/Anglican, do not have a problem with the idea of being contiguous with the ancient church of the Fathers, including the 7 Ecumenical Councils, nor are they totally ignorant of history. Some just perceive the claims of the See of Rome as being bloated and triumphalist, and a source of disunity and division, and underneath the public relations that the Pope does, there is mostly the same issues facing every other church in the struggle with modernism. The Pope mostly has used his “infallible charsim” to support debatable pet theories of certain Scholastics, and not appearing to do anything to advance the Gospel in the world (ultimately the claim of Papal Infallibility itself is circular). To really take the claims of Rome seriously, you’ld have to believe the orders and sacraments of your church are “null and utterly void”, and this just goes against the experience of Protestants for the most part (Catholics will talk about miracles or apparitions in their church sometimes as evidence, but this is not real evidence at all, because Protestants have the same stories).Hi, there.
I recently heard a quote from St. John Neumann (paraphrasing): "When you embrace history, you cease being Protestant.
Rev., may I ask what seminary you have attended and how many years it took you to become the title Reverant? Thank you.Never saw rev stair on the CAF. I quess I’m over reacting because of the word Rev.
How do you deal with Anit Catholics? Well you smile, pray for them, and don’t worry about the Nasty things they say. Put it in the Holy Spirits Hands. Jesus went through much worse than we could ever dream of. He also forwarned us about people like this. Stand up for your Catholic Beliefs, nicely tell them, if you are asked, what you believe and put the rest in the Holy Spirits Hands. How do you deal with anti Catholics like Rev. Stairfrom Overcomer ministries and why do they say such nasty things, what leads them to believe that Catholocism is evil?
I don’t know anything about him, but a quick google search shows that he’s a charlatan. How do you deal with anti Catholics like Rev. Stairfrom Overcomer ministries and why do they say such nasty things, what leads them to believe that Catholocism is evil?
Catholic priests are also Reverends. Does your flock call you Rev Kev? Or Pastor Kevin, or both? When writing to a priest, you would address a letter Rev. ________, but we call them Fr. _______, when talking to them.Never saw rev stair on the CAF. I quess I’m over reacting because of the word Rev.
I** don’t **see you as Anit-Catholic. I see you as a Christian with a love for Jesus and although you attend a Luthern Church, I see you as a family memember (brother/sister) in Christ..
I’ve been told, REPEATEDLY, that I’m “anti-Catholic,” that I “hate” the Church, that all I do is “bash” The Catholic Church. I’m been labeled that SO often that I rarely respond any more…
Here is my position on The Catholic Church. And typically, those that call me a “hate monger” and “anti-Catholic” are well aware of my position: I affirm that The Catholic Church is, in every sense and to the full sense, valid - and I hold it in high esteem. I regard her ministries, ministers and Sacraments to all be valid. I regard nothing it officially teaches to be “heresy” or contrary to Scripture and/or Tradition. I overwhelmingly agree with her (my priest said ‘a lot more that most Catholics’ - and he’s probably right). I regard all in her to be my full, unseparated and equal brothers and sisters in Christ. And I pray daily and ernestly for God’s greatest blessings to her, her ministries and ministers and Holy Father. I was richly, richly blessed during my years as a Catholic and I’m very, very grateful for that. That’s my position. Now, I’ve sometimes asked if they would say AT LEAST as much about my new organization (The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod) - but not one has EVER responded - only to continue their insistance that I’m a hate monger, I constantly bash The Catholic Church, I call the Church evil and satanic and a cult (none of which I’ve EVER done)- on and on.
I’ve come to this conclusion. While irrational hatred toward The Catholic Church no doubt exists (as no doubt also exist toward Protestants), I think all this “how come everybody’s always pic’n on pur me” thing is overdone. And often just not true.
Look, I disagree with The Catholic Church on EXACTLY the same issues that it disagrees with me about - to exactly the same degree. But read what I say and believe about The Catholic Church. And read what The Catholic Church has said (lately anyway) about Protestants. It’s not hate. It’s not anti.
Perhaps one day all will get past that, and begin to engage in respectful, honest, real discussions - as full, equal, unseparted brothers and sisters in Christ. Maybe…
.
That is true. That is what I used to think.i was just speaking with my baptist friend about Haiti. she said they need to have someone go in and teach them the Gospel. i reminded her that 80% of the country was Catholic. she got quiet - like she was thinking that wasn’t good enough. the people don’t know the gospel through the Catholic church. so i guess she feels they need more protestant missionaries over there.
I read that nearly half the population of Haiti practices in Voodoo (Vodou), which would includes members of the Catholic majority. Perhaps the Baptists think they can do a better job than the Catholics in eliminating syncretism.i was just speaking with my baptist friend about Haiti. she said they need to have someone go in and teach them the Gospel. i reminded her that 80% of the country was Catholic. she got quiet - like she was thinking that wasn’t good enough. the people don’t know the gospel through the Catholic church. so i guess she feels they need more protestant missionaries over there.
Newman, who was very aware of Anglican doctrine and practice, did not claim they were “totally ignorant of history.” He also illustrated that the claims of some Anglicans not to have broken with sacred tradition were false.
Nor, based on what little I’ve seen, do I. Most of the LCMS folks I know are not anti-Catholic, though a few of their doctrines are.I’ve been told, REPEATEDLY, that I’m “anti-Catholic,” that I “hate” the Church, that all I do is “bash” The Catholic Church. Most here who are rev did not use a small r they call them self REV with a Big R,If I see a small r I,d think they was not a REVNo I don’t consider myself to be anti-Catholic or that Catholicism is evil. I question it.
How many others here have rev in their name?
We still pay, I guess you can call it, the “legacy costs” of past racism. But I also don’t think we’ll have to live this down forever. This country, like the human race in general, has evolved over time. Thankfully the rationalist thinkers of the enlightenment lit a spark that will never and can never be extinguished. It put something in motion, the idea of individual liberty, that created unstoppable momentum (and given the philosophical foundation of this country, slavery was bound to die). Slavery was something sort of alien to Anglo’s anyway (the British outlawed it very early on, and it was really a creation of the Spaniards, picked up by southern plantation owners, and again it ultimately didn’t stand a chance agaist the very liberty loving secularist northern establishment).I would stay clear of that website. I have some very close Baptist friends.
That source is probably reflective of the Great Scourge of America we have to live down forever…the racism and enslavement of African Americans.
Sometimes I wish something like that were true, but it’s not. Maybe there’s some sort of transcendent consciousness, and every action certainly elicits a reaction (and wrongful conduct generally creates bad results), but I see nothing to suggest the idea of cosmic justice is realThe Lord will hold us accountable for even every single word we utter.
Religion won’t have that … too many entrenched interests involved.Let God be God.
Reason?Rev., may I ask what seminary you have attended and how many years it took you to become the title Reverant? Thank you.
yes, i have heard that also - it is a mix of voodoo and roman catholicism.I read that nearly half the population of Haiti practices in Voodoo (Vodou), which would includes members of the Catholic majority. Perhaps the Baptists think they can do a better job than the Catholics in eliminating syncretism.
The reasons as stated with the question. How many years and what seminary did you attend to give you the title “Reverant”? Just curious. Is it a tough question?Reason?
Get to know your own faith so well that you can discern a lie.How do you deal with anti Catholics like Rev. Stairfrom Overcomer ministries and why do they say such nasty things, what leads them to believe that Catholocism is evil?
