What does it mean in the Bible when it talks about this anti-christ? Is this something that already happened? I’ve heard Nero and others. Probably that started the early persecutions.

So is there no official Church teaching on this? I would be interested in as much as possible. I am tired of hearing these crazy claims from protestants that everyone that comes along is “THE ANTICHIRST”. Whatever that really is.This is NOT official infallible Catholic Teaching, but there is a VAST majority of Church Fathers, Saints, and Biblical references to make it obvious that it is true. ALSO MANY approved Private Revelations confirm this(So IMHO it is dumb not to believe this):
The Antichrist is first and foremost a SPIRIT, that denies that Christ is God.
Many antichrists have walked the Earth. Nero is one, Hitler another.
The GREAT Antichrist will be a single man. He will be human, just like all of us. He is NOT the Incarnate Satan. Only God can become flesh, not Satan. Some say that he, Satan, and the False Prophet will make the anti-Trinity. That is NONSENSE, dont listen to that claim. In fact, dont look at Protestant Antichrist theories, they are CRAZY. However, spiritually, he will be son of the devil, like all mini-antichrists and great sinners are. However, he will be connected to the devil more strongly than any other human since adam and eve.
The Antichrist is not called antichrist because he is AGAINST Christ, or Versus Christ, he is called anti because he is ANOTHER Christ, a FALSE Christ.
Jesus the True Christ came when the world was in despair, and ruin…spiritually. Everywhere, spiritual ruin of sin. However, materially, the world was in a HUGE unified ordered Roman Empire. But, spiritual chaos reigned.
Jesus came, NOT at all concerned with saving the world materially, he came to save our souls from sin and hell. And he did. He is thus the Messiah, he brought SALVATION to the world.
The Antichrist shall mimic this. He will appear, by the opinion of MANY MANY private revelations and prophets and saints and Church Fathers, at a time where the Church had just experienced a great spiritual revival. He will come only after the True Gospel has reached every ear on the planet. So, spiritually it is the opposite of when jesus came. EVERYBODY will have a true means of salvation. However, also physically the opposite. He will come at a time where the world is in a SEVERE material crisis. Perhaps some disaster or war or economic crisis has destroyed he world. That is up for speculation. Anyways, the Antichrist will come with SALVATION-not spiritual, but material. He will seemingly instantly solve the economic or whatever crisis, bring a false Rennaissance in culture, a false Enlightenment in philosophy, a new age of technology, supposedly bringing the world more evolved. He will make the whole world a first world. IF…IF IF IF the catch is IF…the world accepts his dictatorial rule, which he will use to enforce the great Apostasy, a false religion that worships HIM. OF course, Catholicism will be persecuted. The Bible and Church Fathers say that he will rule for 42 months.
He will be defeated ONLY by the Second Coming of Christ.
So I know all of that seems super far fetched, but I can get Church father texts and Saint quotes and Bible verses and vision messages in another post if you want.
(Good Question btw)

What is the “day of the Lord”? I’ve never heard that one.No.
There are four “apocalypses” (in the generic sense of the term that the world is destroyed, though after each destruction there is a rebirth) mentioned in the Bible.
The arrival of the anti-Christ is one of the major signs of the fourth, and final, Apocalypse: which, IMHO, is not happening any millennia soon, if for no other reason than that The Day of the Lord hasn’t happened yet, and it has to happen first. OTOH, The Day of the Lord, could be next decade the way things are going now.
- Noe’s Flood (Physical Destruction by Flood).
- Christ’s Death (Spiritual Destruction).
- The Day of the Lord (Physical Destruction by something other than Flood, probably modern war given that Joel 2:6-8 is a pretty decent description of modern warfare by someone who could only reference the vision with 9th Century B.C. things, but I digress).
- Apocalypse (in the specific Apocalypse of St. John sense of the word)/Second Coming/Final Judgment (Spiritual and Physical Destruction).
As always, I’m just some guy on the net offering his .02.
Cheers

Not sure why you’re quoting Chabad commentary to me, historically Jewish theologians aren’t the best at interpreting prophecies in the Old Testament (not to say that Jewish theologians don’t have something interesting to say about the OT generally, or historical books specifically, but prophecy is definitely a weak point. See, for example, the failure of a majority of Jews to recognize Christ as the Messiah back in 33 A.D., despite the fact his coming was extensively prophesied in the self-same OT)chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/16170#showrashi=true
Here’s the scripture you’re referring to. Is that a Persian or Babylonian war that the Hebrews were in?

I’ve found in my studies that Christian Scholars, and I don’t just mean the Catholic Church but the protestants too. Especially the KJV seem to want to go back in the OT and “tamper” with a few things to make things reflect Christian prophetic belief. David’s words and wording et al.Not sure why you’re quoting Chabad commentary to me, historically Jewish theologians aren’t the best at interpreting prophecies in the Old Testament (not to say that Jewish theologians don’t have something interesting to say about the OT generally, or historical books specifically, but prophecy is definitely a weak point. The Day of the Lord is a future event that, as noted, is apocalyptic in nature and, as noted, is distinct from, and precedes (by, I believe, several millennia) the actual, capital A, Apocalypse prophesized by St. John.
I see. I have read some of the terminologies in Rev. concerning these creatures. That’s “coded” but I don’t think that’s what you mean. They represent the four gospels. I read that in “A dummies guide to Catholicism”. I’ve read that book through and through. IMO it’s a great book! So there’s my sales pitchYour tired of protestant theories?
Here is something to keep in mind.
It will NOT be some coded message to crack. It will be obvious to all true Christians when he arrives. And all Christians will be reunited to the Catholic Church.
It will be OBVIOUS, so don’t worry about finding out the secret truth about the people you see on TV today.
OK so the “Apocalypse of John” is about just that, Apocalypse and AntiChrist is different. Can you elaborate? The antichrist is mentioned four times in the Bible…
Children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come; therefore we know that it is the last hour. (1 John 2:18)
Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. (1 John 2:22)
**and every spirit which does not confess Jesus is not of God. This is the spirit of antichrist, of which you heard that it was coming, and now it is in the world already. **(1 John 4:3)
For many deceivers have gone out into the world, men who will not acknowledge the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh; such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. (2 John 1:7)
The apocalypse and the Antichrist are two different things.
-Tim-
Apocalypse means “unveil” or “reveal” in Greek - the lifting of the veil to reveal the real kingdom of God.OK so the “Apocalypse of John” is about just that, Apocalypse and AntiChrist is different. Can you elaborate?

Why would any of this be ‘far fetched’? Heck we as christians believe God was born as a regular man, died and ascended into heaven after days…to many, that would be far fetched as well. This is NOT official infallible Catholic Teaching, but there is a VAST majority of Church Fathers, Saints, and Biblical references to make it obvious that it is true. I have no idea what you’re talking about. The Latin Vulgate of St. Jerome which was the basis of the Douay-Rheims is a much better translation of the OT than the Masoretic Text I presume is used by Chabad.I’ve found in my studies that Christian Scholars, and I don’t just mean the Catholic Church but the protestants too. The Anti-Christ is not coming from within the Catholic Church, the Catholic Church is under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Which Bible verses are you referring to?I think the CC may sort of shy away from this, is because the bible suggests the AC will come directly from within the church, and many would believe a lie (that he is the messiah returned), so this means, at some point, the CC will have to admit the AC is right among them and likely be a high ranking member.
This is not something many like to talk about either, as this event will separate the truly faithful from the ones just going thru the motions, or lukewarm christians. All we can do is pray and pray that God grant us the ability to recognize this person when he comes on the world scene.
Actually, he is right. As long, anyways, as he did not mean the Catholic Church IS the Antichrist, in which case he would be wrong.I have no idea what you’re talking about. TRUE. And actually the CC does NOT shy away from it, only the modern world at large does. Modern and past popes and saints had LOTS to say about Antichrist, both indirectly and directly. Why would any of this be ‘far fetched’? Heck we as christians believe God was born as a regular man, died and ascended into heaven after days…to many, that would be far fetched as well.

But this hasn’t happened yet though? I can think of some lowsy ones.TRUE. And actually the CC does NOT shy away from it, only the modern world at large does. Modern and past popes and saints had LOTS to say about Antichrist, both indirectly and directly.
True, the Antichrist will SPLIT from the Church, but will NOT be the Church. The Church will obviously be the Greatest enemy of Antichrist.
That is why the protestants and traditionalists who say the Church is the Antichrist are DEAD WRONG. But, there will be a false pope one day, and he will be antichrist.
