Anti-gay message in Catholic parish bulletin sparks outrage

I’ve never once been rude, disrespectful or shunned him. However he does know my beliefs and respects them as I respect him, however that does not mean attending any kind of Pride events.
No one who doesn’t want to go to a Pride event should feel like they have to go and everyone who wants to go to one should go. If going to one of these events violates someone’s religious beliefs, they shouldn’t go. But I did notice something in the announcement in the parish bulletin that seemed a little odd. It said, " A reminder that Catholics and all other Christians should not attend LGBTQ2 ‘Pride Month’ events." Considering that many Christian denominations (Episcopalians, Lutherans, Methodists, etc.) have people in them who now perform same-sex weddings and don’t see anything wrong with gay sex, it’s a little much for the person who wrote the bulletin to expect those Christians not to attend. I know that where I live, the local Methodist and Lutheran churches will have people marching in the Pride parade.

Not odd, I think. ‘All other Christians’ is more than those who perform same-sex weddings for example.

But the fact that it includes them is the problem.

It’s one thing for it to be in a bulletin for Catholics to read. But to presume to tell others that don’t believe as we do is what much of this thread has been about. Just as I do not want to read anything that goes against Catholicism is okay and have it call out “all Christians and Catholics as well.”

I think the priest was just saying “anyone else who follows Christ”.
I don’t find it strange, in fact I find it bold because of all the “well now I’m Episcopalian so…”
Statement makes sense coming from Christ’s Church to all other churches.
What if someone told St. Paul, “hey now I find it strange that your addressing churches in Corinth, they don’t believe as we do so drop it”.

I’m no expert on the matter, but same-sex marriages in certain denominations aren’t consensual and were even considered cause for schism for the Anglicans/Episcopalians…It does appear the internal debate on the matter is ongoing the same way those schisms are relatively recent. None of it appears completely peaceful or settled so far, we have yet to see the medium-long term consequences those denominations will suffer for their stance. And, on a general note, it does appear those denominations are in rapid decline generally.

In case of the Anglicans there was a significant political undertone to the matter, since they validated same sex marriages apparently as a last ditch effort to avoid reunifying with Rome. In any case, the issue goes well beyond LGBT…I haven’t studied any of it and can’t really comment beyond this.

Having known several individuals my children’s age (mid 30’s) who “experimented”, I have no question that children can be influenced by both the popular culture and the message coming out of the LGBTQ community and the progressives who support their lifestyle. And that is just a few I ahve known. I seriously doubt their actions and choices were an anomaly.

I’m not sure what you mean by “consensual” in this case. In the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), for example, a majority of lay and clergy voting members at its 2009 Churchwide Assembly voted to allow individual congregations and their pastors to decide whether they would perform same-sex marriages or not. Decisions are made in the ELCA at biennial Churchwide assemblies or annual Synod assemblies. No congregation must perform same-sex marriages if they don’t want to.

And as for how the ELCA and the Episcopalians are doing, I’m not sure that they’re doing a lot worse than the Catholic Church in many areas. Unfortunately, religious affiliation and church attendance are declining in many denominations in the US and things don’t look exactly rosy for any of them. But I think it’s a little premature to make any predictions about the demise of the ELCA or the Episcopal Church.

Yes, Ed. Both the documents of Vat2 and the Catechism are baptizing 20th century, post-war liberal humanism. It’s not that ‘I think this:’ it’s what the words actually say.

If the world is outraged a Catholic priest dares to say a parade celebrating sin is harmful toward children…more Catholics need to say the same. Make no mistake Catholics everywhere are being forced to choose between the world and Jesus Christ. This priest should be commended for his courage to speak the truth in season and out. He does well to prepare the flock.

Yes it is nonsense. Like when we baptized barbarians. As our Father Saint Augustine said, All men pursue under the aspect of truth or the good. 20th century post-war liberal humanism was and is a deeply flawed philosophy; but it at least had some merit.

No one was outraged. The story is so fake one might even wonder if the pastor was paid to publish it. Of course Christians who believe in the virtue of self-discipline and chastity will not go to a “indulge your selfish lusts” party.
