Anti-Muslim film puts Christian TV in global spotlight

LOS ANGELES – Off the 210 Freeway in suburban Duarte, Calif., between an International House of Pancakes and a Wal-Mart, sits a nondescript one-story industrial park that has been an unlikely flash point for weeks of global unrest.

It’s here that The Way satellite TV channel creates evangelical Christian programming that beams across the Arabic-speaking world. Until recently, the business was so anonymous that even city officials didn’t know the television studio was operating there.

But that all changed a few weeks ago, when The Way was revealed as a key filming location for “Innocence of Muslims,” whose YouTube trailer has sparked ongoing violent anti-American protests in dozens of cities in the Middle East and beyond.

It is a despicable film. But what is **even more despicable **is the violent reaction of some Muslims and the calls for “blasphemy laws” that no red-blooded, freedom-loving American would even consider.

Why I am happy to be an American. If one does not like the film, one does not have to watch it. Freedom isn’t always pretty. And “the world” has no idea what freedom is.

Nothing in the movie contradicts history. But they made it to look bad…
 
They can try and ask for some extra funding for the next one?

Just fyi: Some people need to know what freedom is: it is NOT “you can say what you want, as long as I agree with it,” or, “you can say what you want, as long as you don’t insult, offend, or disrespect me.” Freedom is the exact opposite: freedom is, “you can say what you want, even if I disagree with it,” or “you can say what you want, even if it offends, insults, or disrespects me.” You don’t have the right NOT to be offended. We all get offended, insulted, and disrespected in our lives. Mature adults know how to handle it (usually we just ignore it, but we definitely don’t riot in streets and kill people). Besides that, what insults, offends, or “disrespects” some person or group of people is subjective.

And by giving this no-rate internet film that NO ONE, even in America, cares a darn about so much attention by their reactions, Muslims are just defeating their own purpose: if they would ignore it, the film would fade into oblivion. It is not in any American movie theatre, nor will it ever be, it is not up for an Oscar, nor will it ever be, no American cares a darn about it!! These Muslims are making a big deal out of nothing and are actually giving the film-makers what they wanted; attention. In Hollywood there is an old saying: “Bad publicity is better than no publicity.” Ignore it, and it will go away. Why are so many Muslims so sensitive and delicate? If it’s not some dumb internet film that no one cares about, it’s a stupid comic strip!! Really, guys, grow up!!

Frankly who cares what foreigners think, let them live in tyranny disguised as “political correctness” I for one am more worried about the excessive speech in America in regards to vulgarity and obscenities (ie pornography and yes the film, I had no problems with it overall but the scene where mohamad was looking for the koran between a woman’s thighs was utterly revolting) and constant restriction of free speech on part of Christians. (ie banning Nativity Scenes)

Well, unfortunately obsceneties is used in real life by some people, so some movies and TV shows just reflect real life. I would not take any movie seriously if in it a cold-blooded gang member or drug cartel boss said only :“Gosh darn!” Lol

Other than that, I agree with you. 👍

I guess you never saw any Jimmy Cagney films…far superior to the trash nowadays.

So I’m guessing you are perfectly alright with murder-porn films like Hostel?

Don’t care for porn…of any kind. No, I’m speaking of movies like The Godfather, Scarface, many westerns, and such. Any movie or tv show that is based on or inspired by real events and/or people, even in part.

And sorry, but Jimmy Cagney is a bit before my time. Though my sister, who is in to classic films and old Hollywood, loves him.

I stand by my post (though it got deleted). Some people need to know what freedom really is, and some people need to grow up and react to offensive or disrespectful stuff, like a no-rate internet film, as mature adults.

Let’s view this in another perspective.

Voting is a ‘freedom’, however, many will attribute a cooperation in all issues supported by the politician, whether the voter actually voted in support of a particular issue or not. This is very evident by some of the threads on these forums.

Freedom of speech is a ‘freedom’, however, many will stand for a person’s right to that freedom and without attributing any responsibility of cooperating in a known response, whether the response is justified or not.

In my opinion, we should be Christian first, countrymen second. Whether justified or not, we know the Muslim reactions to representations of their faith, and that those reactions have a high probability of innocent people losing their lives, or otherwise being traumatized.

Should we allow racists to utilize their freedom in films calling for the direct taking of lives of another race?

Should we allow a person’s right to free speech by allowing them to yell fire, or bomb, in a crowded theater, stadium, airport, etc.?

Why wouldn’t a person supporting a person’s right to freedom of speech, where a known reaction will be violent, be cooperating in the violence?

Well the Godfather is far less violent then many films nowadays. I have no objections to the Godfather.

The point is you can show violence or sex without actually showing it. One of the things that made older films so much better, was they allude to a lot of things but never showed it. They treated their audience like intelligent adults and showing two people passionately kissing before the door closes in my view reaches the same conclusion but in a far more tasteful and Christian manner than going all Cinemax.

As for the anti-Mohammedan film, my objections are not because it upsets the Muslims (I say join the club) my objections is because it is utterly vulgar. I am against people who support banning the film on the grounds “It upsets the Muslims, or it’s blasphemy towards Muslims” seeing arguments like that makes me wonder why they can’t fight for Christianity like that? 🤷

However I am for banning the film or at least censoring it on the grounds it is vulgar. Personally I really wish the Hays Code would be reimplemented.

I haven’t seen it, nor do I want to, so I don’t know if it is “vulgar.” And if we are taking the Muslims’ word for it, remember “vulgar” to them is even just an image of Mohammed.

Ask yourself how many Catholic Churches are in America then ask yourself how many are in Saudi Arabia. Too bad the world isn’t more like America.

Including “foreign” Catholics, who join in condemning the violent and immoral reactions of the Muslims to this and other incidents?

And do you realize that in countries where Christians are already a minority and facing all sorts of open and covert hurdles, such a stance is just likely to leave us worse off?? That prudence is a virtue? That sometimes, a cautious censorship is the only way a secular government can preserve a fragile peace?

Seriously. Whatever happened to “there is neither Jew nor Greek”?? :mad:

I doubt St. Peter is going to turn people away from the gates of Heaven because of their nationality.
