Anti-Protestant bigotry has become too much here.

When I first cam to this forum, Non-Catholic religions was an interesting and fun place to be. I wasn’t here to convert anyone but to clear up misconceptions about protestants and I have always been willing to have my own misconceptions about Catholics cleared up. This used to result in lively interesting conversations that not only helped me learn to defend my faith but spurred on my own study of Scripture. To all of you who were in those conversations (Like Lak and MariaG and the protestants like AllForHim (sorry I didn’t name everyone)), I will miss you guys and for you I won’t delete. I’ll poke in now and then to check PMs.

Lately, it has been none of that. The forum has become, instead, a place for Catholics to put down people who are not Catholic and be rude. Therefore I have no reason to believe there is any point to continuing here while this is the way things are going to be. It is with a sad heart I leave.

We have never met, but I’m sorry to hear that you are leaving! I have been raised Protestant, and am now converting to Catholicism. I have personally never had anyone on here be anything but kind and giving to me. I have definitely seen what you are referring to. However, I have seen Catholics on here getting slammed just as hard as Non-Catholics. I personally think everyone on here needs to watch how they come across. I don’t contribute much on threads, as I don’t like arguing back and forth.

I am saddened though, that you feel the need to leave, although I understand why you might come to that decision. I wish you the best!!

The people that post virulently anti-Protestant stuff need to examine their own lives, for sure. In some cases there is a lot of sinful pride and joy in divisiveness. Both our priests have been to my relief ready to acknowledge the influence of Protestant denominations on the Catholic Church.
 
I have had to take a break from the forums for awhile myself a few times. Consider giving that a try and come back.

I’m sorry to hear that. Please stick around. Perhaps your post will make some of the offenders who seem anti-protestant think twice before posting anything that could be considered (or is intentionally) rude.

I appoligize for those that have have been mean spirit in their debates with you. Please don’t leave the forums because of those that get carried away, there are many of us Catholics that want to have honest dialogues with non-Catholics based on our mutual love for Chirst. Sometimes though emotions get carried away and we may forget who is in control us or Chirst.

Before leaving, have you considered sending PMs to those people who you feel cross the line?

You and I have had “discussions” on this Board. I didn’t think I was rude to you. But perhaps you saw more in my posts than I intended. I hope not, but I would like to know.

I would really appreciate specific admonitions, as per Matthew 5:23 and 24 and Matthew 18: 15-17, rather than a sweeping condemnation.

The Bible doesn’t tell us to avoid such confrontations at all, but rather, to go to those that have offended us and try to make things right.

If you have a policy against sending PMs, perhaps you could contact the Moderators and ask them to please contact the people who have offended you. Again, this seems more in keeping with the Biblical approach to resolving conflict than just throwing out a general statement and then walking away.

I for one have really enjoyed having you around, and I trust have treated you respectfully, although I know I haven’t always agreed with you either 😉
 
I haven’t followed any of your posts, but it is a shame that you are giving up in defense of your interpretation of the Christian faith.

I joined today solely to confornt all the anti-Catholic sentiment I have seen on here over the last few weeks since I started following these forums. :knight2: And its not just Protestants spewing such venom.

It really bothered me that the One True Faith was taking such a beating at the hands of people who seemed so ill-iformed and at times, full of hate. Some of the posts I read kept making me realize that the devil is hard at work.
 
I’m a recent new commer here, but I can relate to the OP and their sentiments. I came here to learn from Catholics what they believe instead of the misconceptions Protestants have of them…what an eye opener!!! For a group that wants others to see the truth and beauty in their faith and understand it enough to no longer hold those “misconeptions”, Catholics are no strangers to holding false beliefs about Protestants…inflamatory sentiments like “There’s over 30000 versions of Protestants…” or “Protestants are heretics…” I am surprised at some of the Catholics here…you have great beauty in your faith tradition…but so do Protestants…each of us have access to God in Christ…each of us feel the other is “lacking”…I just think that we all could do better…

To the OP, I’d say “Take a break”…“let things die down”…To the Catholics…I’d say…“Be kinder to the “heretics”…show a more Christlike spirt and less of a contemptuous style in relaying your faith.”

It does put some of us off…I know some of you may not care…you may insist on us understanding your faith…I can understand a whole lot better with kindess and patience…instead of hateful phrases and attitudes…but that’s just me…you might find others feel as I do…but don’t have the patience or just don’t want to be “knocked down” again or put in our “Protestant place”.

Something to think about.

I am so sorry that you have experienced this. I have met some rude people here too but they are rare and I find that they are either suspended or banned eventually. I hope you change your mind.

I’m glad to see someone put this up- I got this sentiment too, but I’m not brave enough to put this up myself.
 
I don’t think you can go anywhere and be treated with respect by all other posters. I’ve been on Protestant sites and have gotten bludgeoned to the point where and had to leave as well. Some people are simply incapable of an intelligent exchange of views.

We all see things from our own perspective but, pound for pound, Protestants here seem to be treated a little better than Catholics are treated on some Protestant sites I’ve been on. At least Protestants here aren’t summarily deleted just for being Protestant.

Your posts have always been informative and well-intentioned. I think you have more to bring to the table here and letting some bozos keep you away would be unfortunate.

I was Protestant for decades and I am now Catholic. Believe me, there are nasty people everywhere. We shouldn’t let them contol the debate.
 
I am so sorry that so many people have been uncharitable to you. You have always been charitable in your discussions. Catholics (and Protestants, too) need to think about these verses: “1Co 13:1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
1Co 13:2 And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

I ask that all of you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, think about what Paul is saying before speaking uncharitably towards another brother or sister in Christ.

Please do not leave permanently. Perhaps, after a time away from the fora, things may settle down.
 
I try to delinate between Protestant and Fundamentalist. I get along fine with Protestants who are not anti-Catholic. You don’t get many of them in here. Most are the ones who want to show us the error of our papist ways or how islamic stoning of converts is a wonderful thing.
