The title of the sermon, “The Only Way to Destroy the Jewish Race,” appeared in an advertisement for the First Baptist in the church announcements section of Saturday’s Portland Press Herald.
“It’s offensive, it was done in poor taste,” said Rose Wohl , president of Congregation Bet Ha’am, a reform synagogue in South Portland.
However, the sermon by the Rev. Philip C. Andrukaitis, pastor of the First Baptist Church, carried a pro-Jewish and pro-Israel theme, according to a copy of the sermon provided by the pastor.

Except for the word “the”, he could not have chosen worse words for his title.

just for the record, I believe antisemitism is sinful as well as harmful to society.

If a sermon entitled “The Only Way to Destroy the Jewish Race,” was supposedly pro Jewish and pro Israel I’d hate to see the title of the anti Jewish anti Israel sermon

Hey, my hometown!
So once again we find people trying to un-ring a bell, as the saying goes.
Mel Gibson, Michael Richards, Rosie, Donald and pastor whoever.
I wish folks would pray about what they are going to say/do BEFORE they do it.
An ounce of prevention…

Does anybody have a copy of the sermon?
Not that it makes it any better. According to the article, the title had nothing to do with the sermon, the pastor was trying to lure anti-semites into his office to change their views. The ol’ bait and switch is not a good evangelizing technique…

At this moment it doesn’t even matter what the sermon was really about. With an ad in the paper like that, the only ones that would want to be there would be anti-semites. I am offended and I’m not even a Jew… I think I would have felt called to host a “What the Jews have done for the World” Seminar at the same time.

“Antisemitism” is a confusing and misused term…
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semitic
German political agitator Wilhelm Marr coined the related German word Antisemitismus in his book “The Way to Victory of Germanicism over Judaism” in 1879. Marr used the phrase to mean hatred of Jews or Judenhass, and he used the new word antisemitism to make hatred of the Jews seem rational and sanctioned by scientific knowledge. Marr’s book became very popular, and in the same year he founded the “League of Antisemites” (“Antisemiten-Liga”), the first German organization committed specifically to combatting the alleged threat to Germany posed by the Jews, and advocating their forced removal from the country.

The term antisemitism has historically referred to prejudice towards Jews alone, and this was the only use of the word for more than a century. It does not traditionally refer to prejudice toward other people who speak Semitic languages (e.g. Arabs or Assyrians). Bernard Lewis, Professor of Near Eastern Studies Emeritus at Princeton University, says that “Antisemitism has never anywhere been concerned with anyone but Jews.”[10] Yehuda Bauer also articulated this view in his writings and lectures: (the term) “Antisemitism, especially in its hyphenated spelling, is inane nonsense, because there is no Semitism that you can be anti to.”[11][12]

All I can say is I feel bad for those so called christians that misunderstand our Jewish brothers and sisters. And all that we as Christians owe the Jews. All we can do is pray for our enemies. This is greatly offensive to both Jews and Christians!

For Salvation is from the Jews!
The Lords Blessings Be upon thee,

I find nothing offensive about the sermon title.

Just think how much more offended this woman would have been if someone had told her she will not inherit the “Kingdom of God” if she rejects Jesus.

Oh, (some) Christians say that sort of thing quite often and, of course, it’s “water off a duck’s back” - being totally meaningless to us.

On the other hand, “The Only Way to Destroy the Jewish Race” does rather carry echoes of “The Final Solution To The Jewish Problem” which was rather this world.
