On a somewhat perplexing side-note: as of now we have 33 posts and 333 views of this thread. Yet only one *non-Catholic * has (in a charitable manner, BTW), saw fit to comment. Where’s the outrage?

Could it be ambivalance ---- or even condonement by silence; an implicit attitude of “Well, I can kinda see the attacker’s point, though I myself wouldn’t have done it”? I really hope that isn’t the case.
I sent this thread to many of my friends and also informed other threads with the link of the story given in the initial post. I think most people have read the news article and probably forwarded it to their friends, etc.

I don’t think Catholics are ignoring something like this happening. I suppose thoughts are “What can we do?- and it will keep happening”. I also don’t think it is such a great idea that it be plastered all over the media - because it possibly may “inspire” other hateful anti-Catholics to do the same thing. It’s bad enough this is most definitely a “hate crime” and will be overlooked and ignored. It should be brought to the attention of our new Chief Justice, John Roberts though. I read in “Center for Claiming America” reclaimamerica.org/ (a Christian organization fighting ACLU and other anti-religious organizations,) that the Legislature has signed a “Hate Crime” bill which will make it illegal for priests, pastors, or anyone for that matter, to speak out against homosexuality or other “immoral issues” while in public. They will be arrested and jailed. How sad. What is this world coming to? Satan certainly has power over all the world. Thank God it won’t last.

I know this a terrible senseless crime, but something good will come out of it. I don’t what, but I’m sure God will see to it. Maybe giving us an opportunity to explain our faith to other Anti-Catholics and or protestants who bring up this tragedy.

God bless your parish and our prayers are with you and your church family.

Perhaps this is a good time to clear up preconcieved misconceptions about the Veneration of Mary and the Saints.

well, actually, this violent crimes towards RCC has been going on for centuries all over the world.Just a year or two, similar crime was committed in san antonio tx,a city in florida,in the carribean, where several people were hacked to death during midnight mass,in europe, where a nude man violently entered the church during worship service and attacked worshippers.i think it’s time for the priests to explain the tenets of the faith, especially the issue of idolatry, during homily.

Peace be with you!

I just shared this article with my school’s Newman Club e-mail list. I said that had this been a mosque it likely would have been on the news and that the Church seems to be fair game. Well, I got a response back from one of these Catholics on the list who was more angry at me insinuating that there is a biased against the Church and that I used a mosque as an example than he was at the church being desecrated! In fact, he didn’t even mention that he was angered by the destruction of the altar; all he did was post an article about the vandalism of an Islamic rec center. This “Catholic” couldn’t have cared less about the destruction of the altar on which we celebrate the Lord’s Supper.

In Christ,
Rand

Ahh Alabama the Pinnacle of religious and cultural tolerance.

Anti-Catholicism is the last acceptable prejudice. That was the title of a book released a few years ago. The author was on the world over live and ironically, he’s an Episcopalian.

Excellent I’m very happy! Okay that may sound weird but its when the Church is persecuted that it grows… So YES!!!

*Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; never be conceited. Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends upon you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” No, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. *

Am I missing something or aren’t we supposed to be joyous over being counted worthy to suffer for Christ, not exact some wierd revenge? When we came to Christ, weren’t we aware that we were going to be hated? As horrible as this is (and it is) it’s also a time of great rejoicing. Christ in us, the hope of glory! 👍

You would’ve better said,"Ahh America the Pinnacle of religious and cultural tolerance."Let’s not disparage any state for something that goes on all accross the country (& gets little press) and probably the world.
Pax vobiscum,

Oh dear!!! I will just have to attach ALL of the US of A onto my trimmin’s

The trimming is from a beautiful poem from Around the Boree Log about an old Irish mama with her rosary. The author of these poems circa 1920s was a Catholic Priest using a pseudonom.🙂
