Antonia d'Astonac and chaplets in general

Does anyone here have any information about Antonia d’Astonac? I understand that she was a Carmelite nun (1700’s?) that experienced an apparition of St. Michael the Archangel. From this experience came the Chaplet of St. Michael.

I was looking at a few websites intending to purchase a chaplet as I have a devotion to St. Michael but something I saw made me pause. I saw, also for sale, a Medjugorje chaplet. It made me question the acceptance of chaplets in general.

Is there any way to know whether a chaplet is approved or sanctioned? Does anyone have any additional information on Antonia d’Astonac? I would love to read more about her if there is much more to know.

It’s been my experience that chaplets are usually said in honor of a known saint (i.e., a canonized saint) for the purpose of obtaining his or her intercession; and contain approved prayers (i.e., Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, the Creed). So, all you’re really doing is asking a particular saint for his or her intercession, using traditional Catholic prayers. Maybe the prayers are arranged different ways… (such as the Chaplet of St. Therese. It consists of 24 Glory Be’s). But they’re still the same prayers.

I don’t really know of any, which do not follow this “formula”. But I would be wary of any that do not seem to be in line with Catholic Church teaching… (using strange, or odd “prayers”… etc.).

The Chaplet of St. Michael is a long chaplet. But it’s a favorite, in our house. Here are a couple links which might be helpful. I think you can also find Chaplet books… through many of the Catholic publishers. They contain traditional chaplets.
