I worked with a man who was concerned because his social security number ended with 666. Some people at my church asked about GPS microchips that can be implanted in children and asked if that was the mark of the beast. I told them only if the government says get one or die. Don’t worry, if you take the book of Revelations literally you are going to know the Antichrist is here long before the mark is required. God give you peace of mind.

…but isn’t that just a mind trick… does naming a floor 14 make it so? …imagine removing the six-hundred-sixty-six page from all Bibles or erasing the 6 chapter of those books that contain verse 66 in them… …would we then not be giving in to superstition?

Michaelgb you are new here so you probably don’t realize that you have resurrected an old thread. It is likely that the OP (Original poster) is long gone, and will never see your responses.

There are many Roman Catholic songbooks, and it would not matter which one had the # 666 or were on pg. 666.

How did you happen to come across this thread?

I’ve worked in a good place for 7 years and I rotate through three offices of the company. The phone number of one of the offices ends up in 666. I always thought it was a blessing that God led me to this area where I live, it’s peaceful, crime is low, good neighbors and good co workers. I have the flexibility of choosing my hours at work, which makes me happy because I can spend more time with my family and children. But I do suffer from OCD and irrational fears and lately I’ve been tormented by the phone number. The book of Revelations in the Bible says that no one will be able to buy or sell goods unless they accept the mark of the beast, that is the name of the beast or the number of his name" Will God think that Im accepting the number of the beast to work? Believe me, my work and the employees are very good people, so I dont think in any way that they are related to the devil. But it’s what that number represents in the Bible. Should I leave everything and move to another place to reject the number and honor God. Im afraid of leaving everything because my children have a good future here, but I dont want God to think that I’m accepting the number. I know it sounds silly to many people, but I have a phobia of the number and I’m debating wether I should move or not.

I think that 666 was actually refering to the Emperor Nero. The New Jerome Biblical Commentary subscribes to this view. Apparently in the language of the time some letters and numbers were written the same way or something. I wouldn’t worry about numbers just stick to worrying about sin.

I agree we need not worry about such numbers, but I would also say that we need not worry about sin, either. Instead, let us fix our gaze upon Jesus!

Ignoring all the other good reasons to not worry about 666, remember that your phone number is not six hundred sixty six. It has 7 or 10 digits depending on how you want to look at it. A 7 digit phone number will be more than 666.

Both Numbers are WAY more than 666. The verse you looked at says that number not any number with 3 6’s in it. Unless your phone number is 000-0666 (and it cant be because no one has a 000 prefix that I know of) then your office phone is some other number than the one described.

The book of Revelation is THE most misinterpreted book in the bible by far. Groups ignorant of its true purpose use it to cause fear and panic much like a terrorist does and this is damaging for Christians. Growing up with that ‘fear’ all around me everyday was not a healthy enviroment and turned out to be the cause for my initial step into the CC.

Revelation is not a prophecy. Revelation is not a fore-telling of future events apart from reminding Christians in those days of their reward in heaven “should they endure”.

Revelation is merely a circular letter of encouragement passed on to each of the actual seven main churches in that day reminding Christians to “hold fast” to their faith “until the end”. Christians were being tortured and killed during the reign of Domitian because of their faith.

Revelation had to be written in apocalyptic style or “coded” so that only those who understood the OT symbols, mainly Daniel, could understand it and not the persecuting Romans. Every number, color, garment, metal, or body part was a symbol that has a specific meaning.

In the case of 666 you must first realize that the number itself isn’t evil. It is just a symbol used to point to Nero as the beast. His Roman title was Nero Caesar which is spelled NRON KSR in Hebrew. Aramaic letters have a numeric value like Roman numerals.

Add them up and you get 666.

Nero, who died in 68 AD was known for his cruelty. Under him the first persecution took place. Christians in particular had reason to fear him and would immediately understand any reference to him. The second persecution was occurring under Domitian. But unlike the previous one, it was not confined to Italy, but spread throughout the provinces. Hence the reason for a circular letter to the seven churches.

John used the mark of the beast or 666 to identify Domitian as another Nero. Rev (13:3): “And I saw one of its heads as it were slain to death: and its death’s wound was healed”. Is referring to a popular belief of the day that Domitian was actually Nero back from the dead. “Nero redivivus” or “the one that was, that is not, and that is to return”.

I urge you to contact a treatment center and explain your thoughts to a doctor. I am familiar with phobic behavior. I cannot offer medical advice. I can only point out that when a thought like this compels you to do things you shouldn’t then getting professional help would be a good thing.

The number refers to a mark on the body. This is not such a situation.
