Hello, as of lately I have been under some self developed stress. Longly big story short, I put a whole bunch of eggs in one basket, accidentally tripped over my own feet, and dropped the basket. There goes flying a few past goals right. So now I have experienced at least 3 anxiety attacks. I talked to a friend today about everything (well most of it), and she mentioned another friend of hers who deals with something similar. Only difference is this friend does something sort of like meditation to control his/her thoughts, emotions, or something like that.

So I’m curious if there are any good tips out there from my Catholic brother and sisters. Prayers on top of the list for this sort of thing, meditations that don’t donnybrook (clash thesaurus.com/browse/clash) Catholic Teaching, or maybe even some random helping tip to help keep blood pressure at a cool average and worries no more than normal?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I honestly saw no other category to put this in. In a head of time, thank you all for your participation whether that be by post, prayer, or even a simple second or two for pondering.

:Dcheers

I’m not an expert on the Church, nor am I a medical expert, but I have had enough years of dealing with panic and anxiety attacks to have learned a thing or two. Controlling your breathing will control your heart rate, and slowing that down will help tremendously. I close my eyes and breathe in slowly for three seconds through my nose, then out three seconds through my mouth. It feels strange at first as we in the West aren’t used to controlling subtle bodily functions like that, but it’ll calm you down. I add a mantra of sorts. As I breathe in slowly I say, “this too”, and as I exhale slowly I say to myself, “shall pass”. Before I know it, it’s passed. Maybe that’ll help? God bless.

The breathing exercises work well. I also like the mantra, “O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You.” I try to focus on Divine Providence, God’s loving care for us, knowing I am in good hands.,

I slowly rub the balls of my forefinger and thumb in a circular motion while saying Jesus. 👍

Most of the time when anxiety happens is when we do not understand the concept that GOD stands ready to help us in our tribulations. Put the matter in GOD’s Hands. Resign yourself to do his will. Understand that if you are suffereing that you will offer all that suffereing for his greater honor and glory. And finally when the Anxiety comes - Say the simple prayer - Not my will lord - but thine be done.

We do not control anything. GOD is in charge. So put the matter in his hands and pray he make his will know to you so that you can conform your own will to his. Do not place the responsibility solely on yourself. We sometimes are too weak to overcome the world. But when we petition GOD to help us - there is nothing that we cannot accomplish provided we are doing his will.

I agree I suffered for many years with panic attacks and such. my family is going through a really rough time right now and sometimes it is really hard to handle. It sends my blood pressure way up. So i go and pray and remind myself that God is here and in control and it is okay to give it all up to him and let go. Faith will guide your heart. close your eyes and pray.

I do!😃 The best one. My Dad taught me this. He said that the devil knows how to get to us with one thing. Fear! What is fear, Anxiety. So he told me this. When it is real bad say this::

In the Name of Jesus Christ satan I command you to get away from me, Keep saying it over and over. God will take over.😃 Trust me, It works.

Exactly. Its human nature to think we can conquer all obstacles. Its Pride in a way. But if we humble ourselves and ask GOD to take over as you said - then he will.

Anxiety is a tough one to whip - especially on your own. A general physician is usually able to prescribe a medicine (or two) to help you regain your well being. I have suffered from anxiety over the past few years - as recently as this summer - and mine is usually self induced as well. I just need to make sure I have everything lined up before I begin big projects. However, once the stress or anxiety set it is very difficult to get yourself to calm down. Other than birth control, I have not heard of many legal meds the Church looks down on.

Prayers and blessing to you!

Good day.
I thank everyone who has read this thread and to those to have commented.

It’s been several weeks and still I deal with anxiety, but I have found new conviction. before I must admit I was lost, but after reading up on the issue and talking with family (a must) I have a better understanding in what needs to be done.

For those who may also have or have had or in sheer desire to obtain knowledge about anxiety, there are several websites and books on the matter. As I normally say, careful what you read.

Take in consideration to above posts and any that may be added here after. Above all else know your symptoms. If you are feeling pain and aware of the problem, then take necessary steps that you may already know about (if you have already talked with a doctor). Otherwise call for an appointment to be sure.

Family history should come up if it hasn’t already with the doctor or in general. Knowing your family history will help understand most if not all health concerns.

Once you understand that you are having anxiety problems (with fair knowledge that symptoms are not related to other causes - as they may) talk about it with your family/friends and develop a plan with their support. I personally have a problem (mental I guess) with asking for help. However, I must and will break that barrier as should others. Me thinking by myself (which I do best) did not work all that great and maybe made matters worst. be honest with yourself and those around you that you talk with ( & doctor) in mentioning what you feel (physical or emotional).

Remember that this is for you. in order to feel better and be better. in comparison to my own delimas or habits, don’t try to analyze what is happening. Work out what needs to be worked out, but don’t’ over due what does not need to be thought about.

More info is to be taken into consideration, and let me be clear this seems to be on going. I didn’t focus myself enough the first time, but have regained an inner fire/desire. Thank you all again and to others I hope this info helps you as well.
