I’ve just met a really great Catholic guy… and I’m not Catholic! We’re definately in the early stages of getting to know each other and it is going very well. It’s the first person I have gone this far with in 7 years since I’m very picky. I feel the interest and attraction to each other is growing at a normal rate, but I don’t want it to continue if there’s no possibility of marriage in the future. We are both very open minded about the other’s beliefs and upbringing and don’t expect the other to change but there are some significant differences in our theology.

I don’t particularly like to call myself a protestant but rather just a follower of Christ since I’m really not into ritualistic and repetitive acts in living out my walk with Jesus. For simplicity sake, let’s say that I’m protestant. He’s Catholic. We both believe in salvation through Jesus and put that as a priority in our lives. Could this work in a marriage? I’m not so concerned about our interaction but for consequences on our children (all Lord willing of course).

I’m in prayer for revelation and so is he but it’s hard to ask people I know because they’re all “protestant” and think that they have THE TRUTH… as do all the people he knows!

I don’t really really know where to go for advice  … so I’m coming to a Catholic!

veah,

These links should help you discern if this man is the one who will best help you and your future children to get to heaven. They explain the understanding of marriage the Catholic Church holds, the obligations your boyfriend will have as a Catholic husband and father, and they will give you advice about interdenominational marriages.
