That’s exactly what I thought while watching the episode.
Overall these comics are really great. To be honest I prefer them to the 3rd season (which is also cool, don’t get me wrong). The art is beautiful and story really fun. There are also many hilarious scenes and gags. And we don’t know what exactly happened to this furry creature that Chrysalis “killed”. Still, comics ARE darker than the show. And nothing’s wrong with this.
Also Mary’s Coronation doesn’t make me want to punch someone in the face.I thought the end of the episode, when Twilight’s coronation occurs, had to be a little bit like Mary’s coronation in heaven, despite being A LOT less glorious and majestic
You really put alot of thought into this whole Catholicism-MLP:FiM metaphor.Well, that is one way to look at it. On the other hand, sometimes vocation (I’d say vocation is what corresponds to cutie-mark in real world, but, of course, “vocation” wouldn’t fit in the song as well as “destiny”) seems to be given without abilities that would be assumed to be required. For example, that might have happened to St. Joseph of Cupertino or St. Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney (not that they got no “compensation”). Though maybe that is not extreme enough… Perhaps, if St. Joseph of Cupertino ended up in Cistersian order instead of Franciscan, then the result might have been close to Pinkie Pie running the farm…
Also, the matter of Twilight becoming a princess… Wouldn’t it seem somewhat close to Holy Orders…?
Finally, the controversies about Twilight becoming a princess have reminded me of things that happen in “Traditional Catholicism” subforum… I guess there will be “Traditionalist Bronies”…

Most certainly. The show used to be all about Twilight. Then in Seasons 2 and 3 they started focusing more on everypony else, which isn’t a bad thing, but then there are a handful of episodes now where either Twilight barely plays a role, doesn’t say anything, or doesn’t show up at all. A critical balance was lost.

). It did look like the writers are “burning all bridges” behind them and all possible stories that would have had to precede the coronation have been lost. Then all this thinking did help me to get to the point when the change doesn’t look that bad. Then I only have to apply something like Pascal Wager: there is truth and “happiness” (in this case - ability to enjoy the show). If we cannot choose the belief by truth, we should check if we can choose it by “happiness”.I don’t it’s a good idea, but I don’t think it’s a completely bad idea either. It might just be ridiculous enough to work. There are enough fans who have been doing humanized pony fanart or fanfics where they become human upon entering our world that there might just be an audience for it.
