I recently became interested in the bachelor of health sciences program at Dalhousie University in Halifax (Canada :-P). Has anyone attended this university? If so, what was your experience like?

Also, since it’s a ways from home for me, does anyone have anything to share about the Catholic opportunities/groups present in Halifax?

I’m not from Dalhousie, but I’m friends with one of the CCO missionaries who works there. PM me your email and I’ll get you in touch. There are few Catholic events at Dalhousie, but she can tell you more.

I attended about 7 years ago…beautiful campus! It is a little more expensive than others, which is difficult if you are a student working your way through school. Unfortunately, I was both teaching on Spring Garden and taking classes over my lunches, so I had to get there 2 mins late for every start of class (by foot or bus was the same amount of time, no win win for me), so I was paying 3x what I was used to, to then sit on the floor of the class because there were 32 students and 30 seats. Very dignified!! Funniness aside, the profs were really good, the campus is stereotypically ‘smart’ in ambience, and Halifax is SUCH a university town.
I would try to rent somewhere downtown if possible! try to maybe find some mature people to live with, not at residence, I have heard a lot of complaints about student life amongst the heavy partiers.

OH, and the Church, St. Mary’s Basilica is beautiful. I used to teach Children’s Catechism there, it started 50 mins before Mass, so it was a good time to offer time AND still attend Mass. (Many times our catechism occurs during Mass, which means you have to miss out)
