Hope someone can advise me.
We had a mold problem, hired a company who had to tear out the walls and floors in master bedroom and bath. They recommended another company to rebuild it all, and they rebuilt the walls, replaced the bathtub and toilet, and put in new floors.
So far so good. But they neglected to replace the electrical baseboard heater in the bathroom, so no heater there.
And they forgot about replacing the bathtub and toilet grab bars that my husband needs to use the facilities.
When I asked they said they don’t do electrical work.
None of this is covered by insurance.
Should I just hire someone else to tear out the part of the wall where the heater goes, and attach the bars? Or do the companies who did the work have any responsibility to make sure it’s usable?
Probably it’s partly my fault, as I paid them in full. I forgot about those things also.
Thanks for any suggestions.

You have to look at the contract that you should have with them. Mainly regarding the electrical, not so much the grab bars.

The company that rebuilt things should have known there was a heater in the bathroom - the electric line should have made that fact apparent. Since they don’t “do” electric heaters, they probably did not include that part of the work in the price, but should have left the electrical to where someone else could do it.

The installation of the grab bars should have been specified by you. Since another company did the tear out, the rebuilders would not necessarily have known that the grab bars were there unless you said something to them.

Did they get permits for their work?
What is in your contract?
What country are you in?
What consumer protection laws do you have?

If your contractor told you “don’t worry, it’s existing structure, you don’t need permits” you may need to call a lawyer.
