Any Catholic Teachings on honoring abusive/scandalous parents and authorities?

Are there any Catholic Teachings on how to honor highly abusive (sexually, mentally, other) parents and authorities? Or are we to no longer honor authorities once they have crossed a particular line? Any teachings would be great, if anyone knows of any.

Certainly there are many heroic examples, though: from Jonathan to Saint Francis.

As far as I understand it, if someone repeatedly hurts you, then you being near them is an occasion of sin for them. So to honor them, you would avoid them. Continue to pray for them, but it would be bad for both of you to continue a mutually detrimental relationship.

If a parent took a child of about ten years old into a store and told him to shoplift an item while the parent was talking to an employee of the store, the child would not have to obey the parent.

Something I learned from a Jewish site: Thinking in the terms a Biblical society would have understood, honoring your mother and father would be, at least in part, bringing honor to them. And how do you bring honor to your family? You do this by living a righteous life, practicing kindness and temperance and all the virtues. In short, you do your best to be a credit to them and whatever good qualities they tried to impart to you - no matter how good or bad a job they did at actually doing so.

Wow, that’s a perspective I have never come across before. Thank you - and thanks everyone. However, I’m hoping to find something that the Church teaches specifically on this matter. Would anyone know of any documentation?
