Any chance of my becoming a priest?

Hello Father,

I was wondering about the possiblilty of becoming a priest. I was talking with my parish priest and he asked if I had ever prayed about the priesthood.

I only ask because I am divorced (though the marriage was annulled) and I have a daughter who is almost 6.

I have heard of widowed men with children becoming priests, but nothing about divorced/annuled men. Also I wonder if possible, what barriers I might face and how that would affect my daughter and my time with her.

Hi,

The annulment would not be a problem. But you already have a vocation. You are a parent and your child deserves your full attention. When she is an adult and you still desire to be a priest–then that’s the time to consider it–not now! At the present she deserves your full attention and not yourself.
