I fear the end times are upon us as Canada has been producing a number of actually decent media pieces including both television and music.

Mom heard about the show from a coworker and we ended up buying the boxed set of seasons one through three and binged watch them for a whole month straight. I totally recommend this show I have seen all the episodes and I wish it would have continued. It takes a while to get used to the characters from season one but after that you are hooked.
My sister mentioned the director is trying to do a spin off of the American royalty and how Cora and Robert met angle. I liked Tom and how he showed the Catholic’s viewpoint overtime. Would definitely recommend and sad to see it end. I wish they would have showed how the family reacted to the Great Depression and World War II but it ended nicely.

I knew it would never carry on that far. Three years ago, Fellowes (the writer) said he wasn’t interested in carrying DA on for ten years, which is what such a series would have required.Mom heard about the show from a coworker and we ended up buying the boxed set of seasons one through three and binged watch them for a whole month straight. Recasting Mary, Edith etc as they grew older would also have been problematic.
But Fellowes may wait and see how fondly DA is remembered, and then decide whether or not to proceed with, as was said, spinoff products. There is already rumored to be a DA movie in the works.

Although I too was a weebit sad to see it end, methinks the ending was masterfully done. Kind of like a 54-episode performance of a Jan Austen novel.

Well to me that does not matter.
Its England in the 1920’s and on so there is a little prejudice but its more to be historically accurate then anything really. Its not bent on slamming Catholics or anything,

Canada is such a tiny country. It is difficult to imagine that a state the size of New York or California could be a major production company by itself.
No I think that some of the best TV will come from the UK and it is free in the US on PBS so not cable bills. I am just surprised they can produce such good shows, According to something I saw, it stated that Downton Abbey had over 275 million viewers worldwide and they translated it to many languages so I guess if you can rake in the money, you can spend it to continue on.

“Tiny” is relative. Canada has 1/2 of the British population and 1/10 of the American population. That would suggest, statistically, that we should be able to produce good content at comparable rates… if the UK puts out 10 good shows and America puts out 50 good shows…we should be able to manage 5 good shows.
. Though to be fair, while we have 35 million people, about a quarter are French speaking… so English content will be comparably even less - so let’s make that 3 good shows…(Quebec has its own French media industry).Of course, numerous Canadian actors and musicians have made it big in the US… and a great deal of American shows and films are actually produced right here in Vancouver, BC, Canada…(or as it is sometimes called Hollywood North).
It is a popular past time among Vancouverites to “spot locations” in US blockbuster films and TV shows. I get a real kick out of Supernatural (now in season 11)…every episode is set in another US town, but in reality every single episode is filmed here in Vancouver and the surrounding area.
Final comment - I don’t think “tiny” is an accurate description. Yes, it may seem so when compared to the US, but in the global scheme of things we are still the 10th or 11th largest economy in the world out of some 200 countries. That’s not nothing.

For anyone who misses seeing Highclere Castle, there’s a BBC comedy called Jeeves and Wooster based on the comedic stories of P.G. Wodehouse. Several of its second-second episodes take place at Highclere, and it’s eerie because the sets look so much the same. I kept going “That’s Robert’s library! What are they doing in there?”

It is an American show (produced for Hallmark Channel USA), just filmed in Canada! There’s some incredibly beautiful scenery. It is an amazing Christian show, filled with morality, action, and drama.

My husband and I were thrilled to be able to visit Highclere Castle last month. We were in England for 10 days, during Easter holidays, and that happened to be one of the times that Highclere was open. We did a day-long bus tour that included the village where much of the show was shot, and included the Crawley house, the church where the weddings took place, the hospital from early seasons and other settings. We then spent the afternoon at Highclere, had lunch from their tearoom, roamed the 1000 acre grounds, and wandered around inside the Castle to our hearts’ content. I was amazed how much of it was open. It was heavenly and so very recognizable from the series. We also saw the Egyptian exhibit downstairs, as the Earl of Carnarvon’s great-grandfather financed and was involved in the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb. What a wonderful day!
