Any Easter Basket Ideas for Children?

I have a 3-year-old and 11-year-old. I thought about getting the Imitation of Christ for Children for the older one. And for the younger some Biblical-figures or puzzles. Any other suggestions?

We got our kids (ages 2 and 4) some books about the true story of Easter and gave them to them today so they can start reading them and be ready for the big day next Sunday. 🙂

The other day I found some very lovely, almost new hardback children’s books at Goodwill (for about a dollar each :dancing: ). They will each get one of these, one toy, and some candy. We’ll also be making cupcakes and a cross-shaped cake (using 2 regular loaf-shaped pans). Our 4 yo son will get a small “EVE” figurine (from the Wall-E movie, he got Wall-E for Christmas and has played with it every single day since) for his toy. And our 2 yo daughter will get a biggish stuffed sheep toy. Hubby got me one to sleep with last month after going to a prenatal appointment with me. DD just loves that thing and asks to sleep with it almost every day during her nap. So now she can get her own 😃 I’m happy we got the kids things we *know *they will love and use and not something just for the sake of giving them something.
 
For young children, fun outdoor active type toys are a tradition in my family - skipping ropes, bubble blowing kits, and things along that line. If you want to keep a religious theme going - Veggie Tales stuff is great. They have movies and toys available. These are available on line, but I have also found them in local Christian stores.

My four year old daughter loves “Larry Boy” and other Veggie Tale movies and watches them over and over again. We have had a number of these since my sons started enjoying them at the same age (several years ago).
 
My kids and I LOVE the fact that the Easter Baskets are filled with seeds and gloves and other gardening equiptment! They all get one or tow veggies and a flower or Herb packet of seeds, then each child plants and tends their garden all year, from weeding to picking! They also help to “put up” thier harvest. It has built the best bonding time and cut my job way back! We did not have Green beans for a single meal last year, because they were my 4 yo sons veggie…He was dilegent to go out to the garden to pick 3,4, 5 times a day, and ate everything he picked!
We also find great outside toys too (like the chalks, bubbles ( that leads me to another son story, he fulshed his bubble bottle on his 2nd Easter!) jumpropes.) and small craft projects, like beads for making rosaries. We want it to be spring for Easter, but here in Wisconsin we are still dreaming. ( I am thinking about making us all wool dresses for Easter!)
 
When the boys were little it was always things like sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and stomp rockets.

This year they are getting the Wii Fit balance board! 😃 They got a Wii for Christmas, and have been begging for one ever since. Their uncle has the Wii Fit, and we were visiting him last weekend. That is all they did for 4 hours with their uncle. Fun, fun!
 
Whenever we make children’s Easter Baskets… we always include a childs Rosary; you can buy them, or make them… yourself… with larger, wooden beads. And instead of a bunny, put in a soft, stuffed lamb; and then, make sure they know that the “Lamb” is a symbol of Jesus.

Being a Californian…where Easter usually marks the beginning of our warmer weather…my children got a bathing suit, flip flops, goggles, pool toys, and candy in their Easter Baskets. All but the candy were things that I was going to have to buy anyway so that helped out on the budget. This went on until they were both way too big for me to be selecting their swim wear. Just last year, at the age of 21, my daughter looked at me and with a laugh in her voice asked “Where’s my new bathing suit?” 🙂
