Why me,
Ya know that is a very good point that I can honestly say I’ve not thought.

I suppose since I’ve not been serious about any religion since leaving the JW’s, I can only speak from that point of view.
And most Catholics that I’ve met in “real time” are not sensitive whatsoever.
I.e. I have heard more times than I can count the Catholics in my area make their own very open remarks about the Church.
Their views on the priesthood, birth control and the child abuse has shown that they take it seriously only in as much as it is a tradition of their life that they have known for so long.
They aren’t shy about it at all.

So, only from my objective experience with the Catholics in this area, I can say that there aren’t too many sensers that go off in their head regarding their religion, whereas, my experience with JW’s has shown me the opposite.
However, that being said, I shouldn’t assume that is the case with all Catholics. I am truly sorry that I did make that assumption and generalized like that.

Unfortunately, more catholics should have their sensers on. What is often overlooked by many catholics is that the church is a community as the family is a domestic church. When members of that community are weak, the church is weak. If more catholics would live their faith, many problems would either be solved or become less in their lives.

The JW’s and the mormons take their faith seriously. This may imply ‘cult’ like behavior. But I can assure you that many catholics admire the mormons for the lifestyle that they live and for the moral education of lds youth. And they wish the same for their own faith (members), the catholic faith, since the moral teachings are rather similiar.

Interesting that you bring this up, as this is something that I had sort of thought of the other day…
My personal experience is this…
If MORE people really took the time to understand their beliefs the way JW’s do, you would probably find a lot less becoming JW or other.
I can’t tell you how often I have run into people who really don’t understand the the concept of celibacy in with priests, or who don’t understand the origin of their church etc etc etc I mean I could go on.
Like you said, they don’t take it seriously enough to really understand it.
I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, as my thoughts on God and man are under reconstruction and I’m slowly learning…slllllooooowwwwwwwlllllllllllllllllllllly that it’s perhaps not my place to judge the relationship between any one particular person and God.
I shall warn you though…heh heh heh…this is something that is taking a while
