Any families participating in 40 Days For Life?

My wife and I have been giving serious consideration to participating in 40 Days For Life this year. We’re not sure what the Vigils will/should be like, particularly since we’re the only people signed up in our area for certain time slots. Have any of you participated in the past?
 
Unfortunately, there is nothing in my area-- the closest locations are at least a ninety minute drive (on a good day.)

I would really be interested in being some kind of prayer supporter for this, though. Could we set up something here on CAF for active participants and prayer supporters-- I think the “accountability” would be helpful for me to stick with it and keep praying and offering sacrifices…

I would like to join in with the prayer side of it, maybe we should start a special thread for it?
 
We are signed up to spend several hours in front of the abortion clinic along with prayers said daily at home.
 
My dd’s school is and I told her I would sign up for some times too… I am so glad they are doing it in the town her school is in!!!

I signed up this morning after hearing Gus Lloyd talking with the founder on Seize the Day. It starts tomorrow and though I will not be able to make any of the vigils since they are 2 hours away, I will be praying and fasting.
I was so pleased to see that there are several states that have only ONE abortion clinic left! I believe that our prayers are truly being answered.:signofcross:
 
Our parish is praying on Friday, Oct 3rd. They had sign ups for adoration.

I plan to do an hour in the chapel at school.
 
in our parish (and therefore in our town) the public activity will be the rosary every evening. families have been also as they wish to undertake fasting for the 40 days, action (support the new pregnancy testing center, or sign up for training as a sidewalk counsellor), and an activity on right to life Sunday in the parish to show support (a variation on the traditional sale of carnations etc).

we can’t get a public venue that will support the full program suggested by 40 days for life, but the campus ministry is also doing something and has invited Catholics in surrounding communities to participate. They are focusing more on prayer, and education.
 
i have a 2 hour shift at the abortion clinic on monday eves. starting next week. this is the 3rd or 4th round for our city. it is very powerful and very moving. covering the vigil at night will be 100% catholic men (iwth others joining in). what a witness!

in the past, i have had shifts in the evening. it is very quiet- a wonderful time of prayer, reflection and visiting iwth others who share your views on life.

i highly recommend it.

plus i know of at least one baby who was spared due to the 40 day vigil in our city. what a blessing.

No, but I think Fadda Anthony on EWTN just said it was ok to participate by prayer alone.

That’s what I plan to do.
 
I just got back from my first “shift.” My wife wasn’t able to come due to a meeting that came up, so I went alone. At first I was really nervous, but armed with the icon of Our Lady I was able to chant the Akathist Hymn to Our Lady and the office of small paraklesis. A lot of ladies did stop and look at the icon before they went in. I’m praying that God will use the image of Beauty herself to convince these women that their lives are beautiful, too.

My replacement arrived an hour later, but I decided to stay for another hour. Apparently not many people have been coming to the vigil. The Los Angeles calendar is nearly empty… :o So if you’re here, there are women that need to know that God loves them and their babies! Get out and join us 😃
 
I hope to participate, but haven’t been able to so far because of the $10 in gas it will cost to get there. We literally have no money after paying our property taxes in cash this month. I hope to attend after my husband gets paid again.

I am interested in the answers that you get as to the atmosphere. I would have to take my two little ones to the vigil. I wonder if that would be disturbing to others if they were engaged in quiet prayer.

Does anyone have any ideas for prayers? I am a recent convert and I don’t yet have a rosary.
