I wondered how many former SSPX adherents read this forum, esp ones who are “novus ordo” again, and how’s that going for you? I’d like to hear about your journeys, if you exist.

I was an SSPX person for about 10 yrs, give or take, as it’s hard now to sort out the early part of that, the segway thru the indult to SSPX. It’s been like 7 or 8 years since I got back to regular Novus Ordo parish membership, and it’s going as well as I could have hoped.

To be clear, I don’t see a future for me in that TLM movement, not as a guy raising kids catholic. It got clear to me at one point either I decide for them to put them at odds with anybody else catholic they are going to meet in life, or just simply be normal. That wasn’t the only thing, but I am very pragmatic sometimes and this was worth saying.

To the rest of you, what gripes you to this day? Here’s mine. I am still not good with altar girls. Never could get over that one. Not sure I ever will.

Ok, I opened my heart, bared my feelings. Stab away. Any other shares?

I’m not an SPPX person, but I am a TLM person even though I attend one particular OF mass weekday mornings, because it’s a reverent mass.

I asked you a question in another thread, but I think it might be better to ask you here.

What made you leave the SPPX and the TLM?

Thanks.

Thanks for asking. It’s a huge question and not the point of the thead, and one can hardly answer this one honestly without provoking others. But I will try and sum it up to say that in my own heart, this was qualifying as a cult. I cannot speak for others who were around me in those days. And that is just not a substitute for a religion, though a religion might be a lot less inspiring.

I occassionally take the family to the local approved EF Mass. It’s a good education for the kids and a nice day trip. It’s not defining us anymore, though, and I am not defined religiously by what I am against (by what I oppose), but just by my baptism and normal parochial day to day life, which most of us are called to.

Hi, papa k,

I understand what you mean about not defining yourself anymore by what you’re against or oppose. That’s one of the reasons why I left the SSPX, too. Though I now attend a diocesan EF on Sunday, I started last week to attend a weekday OF. I can only afford to drive there twice a month, since it’s a ways outside my city. This poor little Catholic church has dwindling numbers due to the anti-Catholic Protestant church in the little town; but I’m just there to warm a spot in the pew, not to engage in talking about the problem of the Protestant church. It’s a reverently done Mass, but even if it weren’t, that would be okay even though I prefer the reverence of the EF.

It’s been quite a process to go from me being a rad-trad to willingly attending an OF, and liking it at the same time. 🙂
